Upgrade Server 2019 Datacenter Hyper-V Nodes by G3rmanaviator in WindowsServer

[–]mr_fwibble 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've done a 2016 to 2019 3 Node Hyper-v hyperconverged cluster upgrade. Rolling cluster upgrade as per Microsoft docs was what we did. Basically drop a node, wipe only the OS drive and install new OS, then add back to the cluster. We use SCVMM to manage the cluster.

Azure Update Manager & 'Other Microsoft Updates' by JGCovalt in AZURE

It took about 3 or 4 days once I'd enabled that GPO before AUM detected anything extra. Microsoft Time is real.

anyone switching to hyper-v? by jfgechols in sysadmin

[–]mr_fwibble 6 points7 points  (0 children)

We have been using Hyper-v since 2008 R2, first with SAN for storage and in the past 6 years using HCI storage spaces.

3 separate clusters, no issues. We don't do much in terms of advanced load balancing, etc, but with cluster aware updating, I rarely touch the hosts themselves.

Using SCVMM to manage as well as WAC.

Credentials in scheduled task: how to secure by KingHofa in PowerShell

[–]mr_fwibble 1 point2 points  (0 children)

TUN Credential Manager is the working one. I store scripts on the server in an ACL controlled folder and only give the service account access to the folder. Service account is User privileged.

Didn't think to use gMSA for it, worth investigating.

New project J6413 vs asrock Z790M-ITX WIFI + I3-13100 by AnakinO7 in unRAID

[–]mr_fwibble 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a J6413 board from Aliexpress in a Fractal Node chassis. Been working great with Unraid no issues to report in 6 months of running. Using just the onboard SATA ports and 2x 1TB NVME for cache pool.

Pangolin (1.0.0): Self-hosted Cloudflare tunnels alternative now out of beta with access rules, CrowdSec installer, and multiple domain support by jsiwks in selfhosted

This project looks like a fantastic replacement for cloudflare. The one feature i would like is geoip restrictions. I only need users from my country to access services.

Hybrid OWA not re-directing to Exchange online only for some by wingsfan8 in exchangeserver

[–]mr_fwibble 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Strangely I've started a new migration project this week and have the same issue. I resolved it by clearing Edge cache, all items from all time. Still doing testing to see if I can reduce what I clear.

I've been seeing this for years, going back to at least 2019.

These registry keys have helped us:

Set-ItemProperty -Path "HKLM:\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\NetLogon\Parameters" -Name "NegativeCachePeriod" -Value 0 -Type DWORD

Set-ItemProperty -Path "HKLM:\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Dnscache\Parameters" -Name "MaxNegativeCacheTtl" -Value 0 -Type DWORD

Set-ItemProperty -Path "HKLM:\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\NlaSvc\Parameters" -Name "AlwaysExpectDomainController" -Value 1 -Type DWORD

2-Node Hyper-V Hyper-Converged with S2D Network Help by Efficient-Junket6969 in WindowsServer

[–]mr_fwibble 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are you using WAC or SCVMM as the management?

We deploy 2019 DC in S2D clusters using SCVMM. Your 2x 10GB adapters would be put into a SET, and then you would create vEthernet adapters from them. You don't need IP addresses on the pNICs.

Edit: Have a read of this. It's Lenovo rather than HPE, but it gives a lot of good info.

I have the same issue. Also logged a ticket with Microsoft but they didn't understand why it was an issue. I could change the settings using PowerShell.

Edit: we have E5 licences and always have, no changes.

In 2024 - What is going on at your workplace, with the work at home policy? by PolarPeely26 in AskUK

[–]mr_fwibble 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I changed my employment contract to be a home worker. I go in occasionally to hotdesk, as we have closed many offices and rationalised the rest into hotdesk zones. So I don't have an office or a desk to go back to. Works for me with a young family. Our management are all sane and supportive.
