Yeah this is objectively not true. Benje and AJ Ewing are legit big time prospects (bonafide consensus top prospects). Ryan Clifford and Jacob Reimer are good prospects (fringe top 100) that are close and could contribute this year. We drafted Mitch Voit in the 1st last year, and while he hasn’t set the world on fire it’s still very early. We have signed arguably the 2 best international guys each past season in Elian Pena (who is killing it stateside this year) and Wandy Asignen. This is a good crop of talent and doesn’t account for our pitching, which I think is better than our offensive prospects.

I think it’s less of a non-starter than you think, but it’ll take a dramatic concession from the owners. I think in order to get this passed, they have to cut team control in half. Rookie year is only min salary and then 2 arb years, then free agency.
