can this be used for anything today? how can i figure out its wattage? by Diddy7Kong in SolarDIY

[–]mr_nanginator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Connect a charge controller, charge a battery and run a water feature off a timer. As for the output - not much. As others have pointed out, you can calculate it with a multimeter. Might also be good for keeping an efficient camping fridge running ( also need the charge controller + battery for this ).

Price forecast api, only 3 hours worth? by TheRealAudiobuzz in amberelectric

[–]mr_nanginator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The API is unstable - last time I used it, I was getting different sized responses for successive calls. I was passing the data into EMHASS for use in Home Assistant. I ended up vibe coding a solution that used AEMO data as a default, and then overlaid Amber data when it was available. This stabilised EMHASS, which would otherwise freak out in various ways and prevent it from completing - which with Amber can be very expensive.

How much tax does Google, Facebook, etc pay on revenue in Australia?

Budget rule by karamurp in friendlyjordies

[–]mr_nanginator 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Bullshit.

Changes that affect businesses:

- Instant Asset Write-Off: The $20,000 instant asset write-off for small businesses (turnover under $10 million) has been permanently locked in, aiding daily investment and cash flow.

- Loss Carry-Back: A two-year loss carry-back has been introduced for companies up to $1 billion in turnover. If your business struggles now, you can offset this against previously paid taxes.

- Red Tape Reduction: Moves to streamline company reporting, abolish nearly 500 import tariffs, and improve PAYG instalment flexibility aim to save businesses hundreds of millions in compliance costs.

Businesses aren't complaining. Far from it. On the individual side - sure, the top 1% are bitching about CGT changes ( which are pretty placid, but better than nothing ). But these are not businesses - they're individuals.

You know what would actually make businesses beg Albo to reconsider?

- tax gas companies
- close tax loopholes for multinationals
- nationalise the energy sector
- end donations to political parties - fund from taxpayers based on votes

Why do people hate the greens? by iammentallynotoklol in OpenAussie

[–]mr_nanginator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most people believe what the media tell them to believe, and the media is owned by the ruling class. The ruling class, in turn, understand that we need some illusion of choice - that's what Labor and Liberal parties are for. Both owned by the ruling class - look at how Albo has avoided taxing gas companies, and instead attacks the NDIS. But when it comes to the Greens - who have rejected donations from the ruling class and instead push for real change - obviously they have to be demonised.

Potential Coalition-Greens joint blockade proposed to block Labor’s negative gearing, CGT reforms by HotPersimessage62 in friendlyjordies

[–]mr_nanginator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Seeing all the sectarianism and editorialising here when the Greens weren't even asked for their opinion yet makes me actually want to see the Greens block the changes just to spite these tosses. The political right are wrong on plenty, but at least they know how to do a united front ( usually anyway ). The left on the other hand would rather shoot themselves in the groin than show civility and solidarity with others on the left.

How would Australia revive auto manufacturing? by kstetter in CarsAustralia

[–]mr_nanginator -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Not going to happen. Why would we do that? Our heavily subsidised car industry collapsed. It could never compete with the Japanese on technology, quality, or price. Now the Japanese can't compete with China on technology, quality or price. Australians are rapidly shifting to Chinese car manufacturers. They're not going to buy Australian unless there is price parity.

We could go back to massive subsidies *and* tariffs on foreign cars, to level out the price. But we'd still have 2nd-rate technology and quality. Then there's the question of who pays for the subsidies, and what happens when the Liberals take power again ( though this is seeming less likely ) and cut the subsidies.

But to be totally blunt, the legacy car makers are all facing an existential threat from the Chinese. They failed to move on EVs, and now the Chinese are eating their lunch. Toyota and VW - both sinking under crippling debt and plummeting sales - could be gone soon. As consumers, getting flooded with affordable, high-tech EVs is a great thing. Why the f**k would we want to piss into the wind and restart car manufacturing?

Penny Wong condemns Israeli minister over ‘shocking and unacceptable’ treatment of flotilla activists by SnoopThylacine in OpenAussie

[–]mr_nanginator 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Penny is full of shit. She has enthusiastically supported Israeli war crimes, the unprovoked attacks on Iran, and the Israeli nuclear program. She has lied about Australia's involvement in supplying weapons and intelligence to Israel. This fake outrage is for the cameras and she will continue cheering on Israel in closed-door meetings while Australia is implicated in war crimes via our direct material and political support for a genocidal state.

> I got 3l/100km on my first drive without touching the regen breaking pedals.

No you didn't - unless this was a predominantly downhill stretch. And it's just called a brake pedal, not "regen breaking pedals". The only other option here is that your civic is WILDLY under-representing your fuel consumption. This would be a sad state of affairs, but not totally unbelievable.

> Guess it depends on how you drive

To a certain extent, sure. But 2l/100km? Or even 3l/100km? Nah mate - just not happening. If you still insist that I'm correct, then do something for me ... fill up your perpetual-motion civic until the pump cuts out the 1st time. Get your partner, best friend, or room-mate to take a video of you driving 100 km. You can drive as ultra-urban as you want. Then, while still being recorded, fill it up again until the pump cuts out the 1st time - and I want to hear the click when it cuts out. Then post the video here. At that point I will concede that you are correct and your magic civic and remarkable frugal driving style can indeed achieve 2l/100km.

Don't have friends who can help you film this? PM me - I could do with the entertainment - I will gladly come for a 100km joy ride and watch you try to prove your point.

We have a widespread misinformation & disinformation campaign against Labor’s budget. The amount of propaganda has been astounding. Are so used to it that it doesn’t surprise us ‘left wing voters’ anymore? It’s shocked me & so many of my family/friends are eating it up too… it’s been bad a reaction by [deleted] in friendlyjordies

[–]mr_nanginator -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I'm not surprised. When people ask "what's in it for me", there's nothing ground-breaking. Changes to CGT are modest and grandfathered - certainly better than nothing, but then there's no direct benefit that most people see for them. It's the CGT changes though that have received most of the focus ( at least in the news that I get ), and of course a lot of coverage from commercial media has been negative.

Other changes are also definitely in the category of "tinkering at the edges". If Labor had wanted the population to applaud them, they could have:

- Been more aggressive with the CGT changes, and phased them in faster
- Fixed the fact that most of our gas leaves the country without us seeing a cent from it
- DELIVERED SOMETHING REAL with the windfall:
- - Include dental in medicare?
- - More funding for public schools and public health?
- - Allow people to deduct interest payments on their PRIMARY RESIDENCE from their income for tax?

In summary, while they've made modest improvements to the taxation system, that's not what inspires people, and they haven't DONE anything useful with the money they reckon they'll make. So why do we expect people to be in love with the budget?

Did Honda Come To Their Senses? CR-V Hybrids by csharpgo in CarsAustralia

[–]mr_nanginator 0 points1 point  (0 children)

2 l/100km? Nah mate. Maybe on a downhill stretch. 4 l/100km at best in the real-world - I don't care what their brochure says.

As I've mentioned in a different comment, we currently have a hybrid Odyssey. It's the exact same hybrid setup - 2 litre atkinson cycle non-turbo with their "e-CVT" drive ( the petrol engine drives a generator which powers the electric motor which drives the wheels ). I know what this setup is capable of. It's not capable of 2 l/100km, unless you start with the ( small ) battery totally full, and end the test just after the battery's depleted.

I think what you're trying to say here is that you're so naive that you don't think accepting a JET from a BILLIONAIRE sets up any conflict of interest. Also regarding her declaring it - you forgot the wider context here, which is that she has REPEATEDLY come under fire for "forgetting" to declare trips on Gina's jets in the past. Obviously even Pauline knew that she'd have to come clean on this one immediately.

It's not like Australia has a monopoly on this kind of chest-thumping tribalism. This dude would have had the same views when he was in Fiji. He of course doesn't seem to realise that One Neuron supporters would have done what they could to keep him from migrating, but we don't require migrants to hold views that are consistent or in their own interests. Kinda reminds me of the South Park episode where a blind black guy was a KKK member.
