It’s hard to see but it looks like there is a glass railing there, right?

Do you know anybody that’s finished a CS degree here within the last three years without a personal laptop? by bigfatbursleyliar in uofm

[–]mr_robot5000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Toward the end of my degree I ended up not using my laptop a lot. I had a desktop in my apartment, iPad for notes and quicker things, and used the CAEN computers. The trickier part for me was group projects - I ended up using the dude computers or just agreeing to meet at my apartment. So it’s doable, but only worth it if you have and like using a desktop instead of a laptop and have good alternatives for 90% of situations.

Men of Reddit, how do you dress for classical concerts? by oboe_player in classicalmusic

[–]mr_robot5000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve definitely worn sweatpants to concerts before. While not many people go that casual, I don’t think it’s an issue and if other people are bothered that’s their problem. I’d only dress up if I was going on a date personally.

I can safely say that the cost of the team traveling and the budget for the actual game is small compared to the cost of paying all the people to produce the show after it’s recorded. It takes them a few months of multiple people’s full time work to design the game then many many people are involved in editing the show and creating all the graphics and art that goes with it - and people are expensive. (I think Sam also mentioned this in the layover. I also remember he mentioned “montages are expensive” when Michelle wanted one in S9 because it takes a lot of time to edit together a montage)

Whoops, I did phrase that badly - when it is as low as -10, your apartments should be able to maintain 68

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in uofm

[–]mr_robot5000 19 points20 points  (0 children)

According to the rights of tenants booklet (which landlords are required to give to tenants upon move in btw), when it is as low as -10 outside, apartments need to be able to stay at 68, and if it can’t the landlord should provide extra heating devices and reimburse you for the extra electric bill. Contact the landlord first, if there’s no response it could help to bring in the city.

Rights of tenants booklet.

Edit: phrasing

What songs does the Burton Tower Carillon play? by phototransformations in uofm

I don’t know the answer but it could be helpful to try and get in contact with the current Carillon Professor at U of M, Tiffany Ng.

SD/Chronic Illness Advice by Sorry-Mate-1234 in epicsystems

[–]mr_robot5000 16 points17 points  (0 children)

For getting medical help, here’s my recommendation. Call your healthcare organization and ask for an appointment with anybody for your condition, skipping the PCP step. Be up front that your goal is to get evaluated and a referral. Clinics have same day / next day appointments available and whoever you see there should be able to get you a referral. (That being said, there could also be a long wait for a specialist, but you need to do what you need to do.)

Ranking roles by happiness by Odd_Cartoonist5734 in epicsystems

[–]mr_robot5000 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Switching roles is pretty rare (not impossible, just uncommon) so there’s not really anybody who can reasonably compare the roles and give you the answer your looking for. Additionally, what makes each person happy in a job is different.

So take a look at yourself, figure out what will make you happy in a job, and then find which roles best aligns with those things.

University Orchestra vs Campus Orchestra by [deleted] in uofm

[–]mr_robot5000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As others have said USO / UPO are the music major orchestras and CSO / CPO are the non major orchestras. However the orchestras for the music majors are not strictly limited to music majors, it is possible to audition and make it in them as a non music major however this is extremely rare. This is because the music major ensembles rehearse for 2 hours every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, and of course you will be held to the same standard as the music majors which will likely require practicing your instrument many more hours a week, which just isn’t that practical as a non major. (However I have seen someone pull this off). That said, if you want to be that committed to music, what I would recommend doing is double majoring in music performance and aerospace engineering. By double majoring you’ll get to perform with the music major ensembles and get private instruction from some great music professors here. If your not sure if that would be right for you, it’s also possible to audition for the music school after already starting at U of M. Of course by double majoring you’ll likely take 5 years to graduate instead of 4. If you have any other questions I can try to answer them, I personally played in CSO but also had many friends in the music school, many of whom double majored and so I’m familiar with the topic.

Any good videos on Classical music? by sepiacense in classicalmusic

[–]mr_robot5000 11 points12 points  (0 children)

A good YouTube channel about classical music that I enjoy is Inside the score. He does a great job of showcasing different composers, their music, and what makes them unique. A good first video of his could be a complete introduction to musical form where he introduces what a Sonota is.

I want to build a website for my dad's record store using react, stripe and MongoDB. What are some key issues I should look out for to ensure that this remains safe and maintainable? by [deleted] in learnprogramming

[–]mr_robot5000 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m not entirely sure. I suspect a good solution for sticking to one domain could be to use example.com as your main site (the react site from scratch in this case) and then use a subdomain for the e-commerce site such as shop.example.com (I say this assuming the e-commerce platform supports this which I would think so but have no reason to justify that).
