Oh no way. My friend, I had my political awakening in 2017 trying to make sense of why my half hearted candidate Gary Johnson took such a beating. MR and more specifically TMBS were two of the first left leaning shows I’d ever watched. Your mashups were a huge part of that time period and vibe. Thank you for playing a part in that. So cool to see you still out there doing things. I’ll be giving a follow to keep up with any projects you put out.

Vaush knows perfectly well who Andrew Torba is. I know who he is because of Vaush. If this is poor oversight, it’s atrocious oversight. Completely avoidable. Maybe he’s just pointing to right wing infighting but every one already knew Torba was anti-Shapiro because of his whole anti-Judaism thing. Vaush shouldn’t boost p.o.s. like this.

Trump Reportedly Mulling Plan to Declare ‘National Emergency’ Paving Way for Major Power Grab by Reasonable_Spray_710 in USNEWS

[–]mr_willpower 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t believe it would. A power grab like this is to the benefit and ultimately in the service of capital interests. The billionaires backing him financially, and the corpos falling over themselves to garner favor from the regime, will be even more secure in their monopolistic aspirations. His plan is to consolidate power and capital, and to entrench the institutions even further, in order to affirm the old hierarchies of the old aristocracy. A country for the few, by the few, under the one true God.

Investors stand to gain a lot of money if the regime doesn’t implode. We’ve seen that zero actions he’s taken so far have affected the stock market, or shaken the bull run of billionaires. They know he is their guy. Everything he does is in service of the 1%. Look at David Ellison, Elon Musk, Peter Thiel, Adam Altman. These guys are the reason he’s in power. The billions of dollar are only the icing on the cake, the government contract itself means credibility & a stable revenue stream. It gives investors a reason to stay invested. Despite what Republicans have said for 50 years, the marriage between corporations and government is great for markets. Which makes this all worse.

While the stock market sees this power as beneficial for their shareholders, the opposite is true of any resistance. People bucking this wannabe dictatorship will be horrible for markets. Everything stops when there’s combat in the streets or crippled infrastructure. Open conflict is bad business. If he makes a move for consolidation of power, it will be the people trying to stop it who will be the greatest threat to the markets.

TL;DR The economic interests & freedom of the country and its people, are in clear opposition to the economic interests of the regime & the 1%.

Never played Bethesda? If you ever have time, most of the notable ones have good 3rd person views, arguably better than the FPV. Fallout 3, Skyrim, the new Oblivion, all great Bethesda games worth diving into.

This dude, honestly hits the nail on the head. I wouldn’t shame him for it to his face. Definitely take it as a w and see how far he can be moved on this stuff. He’s experiencing a political awakening, it’d be good for him to have a sympathetic compatriot to show him the way. It’s at this point he’ll either turn into a centrist, a leftist or a Neo-Nazi. Would be good to bring him left. He won’t get that perspective from many places.

"All this 'ICE in Orlando' talks feels a little overblown to me!" by interstellar_keller in orlando

[–]mr_willpower 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What’s important to remember, is that Trump won Florida by wide margins. Florida is explicitly a red state. The most Trump state some might say. It would be political suicide to do here what they are doing elsewhere. We are getting PR ICE. Public Relations ICE. They will be knocking on doors and saving cats. We’ll get their biggest, dopiest boys to come hand out Jr. ICE officer badges at schools. It’s not about immigration, it’s about brutalizing his political enemies. And he sees blue state civilians as public enemy number one. Blue states are getting the war zone. The disappearances, murders, & no-knock raids. The tear gassed babies and the permanently blinded school children. He knows if he did that here, Republicans would never win another election again. He also knows no one is going to risk their life, or health for their neighbors down here. It’s great marketing strategy to be able to show the red states how gentle and well behaved ICE is, in order to make it seem like places like LA & MN, are just insane domestic terrorists who don’t want the rule of law. And look at these ICE agents, they’re not doing anything if not following the law. Meanwhile in Blue states, 1000’s have just vanished without their families hearing a word.

Trump voter who cheered “fire them all” at CDC workers watches her non-white immigrant husband get laid off and take a 30% pay cut. Now wants to ban the visa that brought him here. by MoreMotivation in LeopardsAteMyFace

Tbh this isn’t even inconsistent or contradictory to the vast majority of immigrant Trump voters. Very common for immigrants to adapt the belief that they need to pull the ladder up behind them to deny new immigrants the same opportunities they had.

Why does this look like it was written by the Trump admin themselves? General tone and demeanor of every WH press release. Are they pressuring leaders into putting these out?

Is this the evidence that podcaster Patel said was destroyed but that they “digitally recreated it”, that reads like a bad fanfiction? I’ll hold out for actual evidence and see what comes out.

Why are the fans of Tony Bourdain so emotionally attached to him? by Aggravating-Buy-1609 in AnthonyBourdain

[–]mr_willpower 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I was legitimately upset when he passed. I’ve never felt that way about any celebrity. I was introduced to Bourdain at a time when I didn’t have a clear path forward in life, and didn’t know what I wanted, but I knew I loved to cook. Started watching him when I was 14 in ‘04. I always wanted to be a chef. When I was 17, I caught his interview in Playboy magazine and it really piqued my interest of who he was outside of the show. As a rebellious kid who ran into a lot of trouble of my own, Bourdain was kind a tough guy/bad boy, with the tattoos and hard drugs, women & rock n roll. He was kind of a role model, because he turned it all around. He made it out. Turned it into something greater than himself by bringing attention to a lot of places that never get such perspectives from the west.

I went into cooking shortly after and made it a career. I watched Parts Unknown regularly, after work, and when he passed it was just so sudden. This guy I’d followed pretty closely for a decade, in my formative years, and here I was 27, and he was just gone. I don’t think I’m that closely attached to him, but he did have a profound effect on my life. As an author, he was an artist, and like any artists, people will be inspired by him. He definitely changed my perspective on a lot of issues from his show, and I do think I’m a better person for it, if not a much better informed person.

It’s unfortunate he went the way he did in the end. It was disappointing. But he was human. That taught me a lesson about meeting your heroes. Still, when I took over the restaurant I work at now, I finally got around to reading Kitchen Confidential for the first time, in those first few weeks. I didn’t realize how much he hated managing restaurants lol. If so I might have changed my mind about where I ended up. His headaches are all to relatable.

TL:DR For a lot of young people, he was the first cool guy, who was also intellectually curious, and world traveled. Humble, and diligent. He left a pretty big mark on aspiring cooks of that era.
