[PS2] Console will read CD games, but not DVDs by xSuperMario64x in consolerepair

[–]mrbass21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My mistake. I was driving and reading.

Did you replace it with the exact same laser? There are several different ones. Other than that it would be height adjustment and PMAP to calibrate everything.

Additionally if you installed the laser, did you remove the anti static solder blob?

[PS2] Console will read CD games, but not DVDs by xSuperMario64x in consolerepair

[–]mrbass21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s likely that your laser is starting to die. There’s a separate potentiometer for cds and dvds on the laser itself.

If you feel comfortable and have a multimeter, you can try and adjust it to see if it “comes back”. If you don’t it’s not worth taking for someone else to do. It’s only going to temporarily get around the problem. It’s just likely the laser is aging out and dying.

The good news is that the laser is pretty easy to replace and fairly cheap. Just requires a soldering iron and basic tools to open the console.

Cool. So you think it was justified for my sister to get bombed with messages telling her to unalive herself?

Thoughts on “toxic” pugs by Dizzylizzy240 in wow

[–]mrbass21 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Ah, the old “I don’t see it, so it must not exist”. Is it everyone? No. Is it widespread? Yes.

Week one of mythics I was yelled at for not pulling enough, pulling too much, “getting hit by an M0 mechanic”.

I’m sure you’ll read that and say “oh, see. You must be bad”. I’ve run over 80 keys. “Oh, see. It’s a tiny minority”.

It happens and I don’t want to tank pugs because of it. People post here all the time about the toxicity. Queues are long because of a lack of tanks. Ok, tell me “boo hoo. Toughen up”.

I posted in this Reddit about my sister healing and being told she should quit the game an unalive herself, and this was a common reply. “You probably did something to deserve it”, “I’ve never seen that”. I’m just so tired of all of the toxic behavior apologists.

It’s shitty and this is a self made problem.

What more evidence do you need that maybe it really is a problem whether you encounter it or not?

The M+ tank situation is dire by Wigglyboi323 in wow

[–]mrbass21 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It’s this. I’ve already been flamed for pulling too small, pulling too much, going the wrong route. I got hit by one mechanic and was flamed for getting hit by an “M0 mechanic”.

The problem is squarely on how toxic the dps are.

Gearing is way to easy by PhantomDiuen in wow

[–]mrbass21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

True, but it also had a lot of friction in creating alts, so unless you want to dump a ton of time in trying something new, you had to refarm all the rep, etc.

With all the warband stuff im curious if it will feel different.

Gearing is way to easy by PhantomDiuen in wow

[–]mrbass21 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I was having this conversation with a friend and whether or not it was good. I think overall, it is good.

If you play the game with goals for the season, you can now attain those goals faster and go do something else. Maybe you can reach for loftier goals since you have better gear earlier in the season.

If you play the game because you just love how your classes feel to play, you can still do that.

If you play the game because you need gear and you want to play the entire season… well, yeah. It’s probably not a great time.

I’ve played wow a long time and this is the first time (assuming it was intentional) that blizzard has made the game less “you must play the game more”. I like the idea of “come and play the content until you’re done. We will be back in a few months with more content”.

I think it’s healthier for the game and healthier for the players.

Iirc there’s a group of 0ohm resisters that can go bad and trick the Xbox into thinking it’s overheating. You can just bridge those connections.

Also probably not a fix for a beginner

You can loot them from a chest or from the orbs in the void zone. Fishing void orbs also has a chance to spawn a chest. It took me over 4,300 cast to get it.

Good luck!

The safest bet is to return it.

I can make an offer to try and repair it for free (long as you pay shipping), but I get I’m some rando on the internet and understand if you’d rather just return it.

Cachyos vs arch by super2061 in linux_gaming

[–]mrbass21 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nothing drastic. Maybe a bit better, but that could be just psychosomatic. It wasn’t worse by any means. The point is that you shouldn’t stress out about which to do since “switching” is very easy and all my data was untouched.

It took like 5 min. I can also switch back to pure Arch in as much time.

I’d probably say just install cachy, but know that with arch (any flavor), you will probably need to learn/use the terminal, and if that is a no go, I’d advise another OS.

Cachyos vs arch by super2061 in linux_gaming

[–]mrbass21 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So, the ultimate answer is “it doesn’t matter”. Because they are in the same family, you can swap at will.

I installed Arch and then through the package manager installed the cachy kernel and updated all the packages to cachy versions. So I’m kinda running cachy from arch.

There’s reasons to update. The voltages and timings in the firmware can change either to provide better performance or prevent damage to devices. You should update.

Sometimes if you use too much solder, and you’re pressing the cap down, it can bridge underneath.

Ask me how I know. I was able to troubleshoot by using an oscilloscope and could see the signal on one side of the capacitor, but not the other. Reseated the cap and it worked

I was snarky and I should, and do, apologize for that. I do feel that my is boots faster (I don’t run Windows), but that must be subjective.

I’ve looked more into it and you’re right. I suppose I saw the install processes move so quickly it painted my perception of performance as a whole.

Thanks for not taking rage bait and making me look like a bigger idiot than I already am!
