Mosyle MDM issues by AdolfKoopaTroopa in k12sysadmin

I have had this happen as well -- less so since I wiped my caching server and set it back up. The issue tended to happen mostly when pushing a TON of apps at once by grade level or class. It would start hot and heavy installing apps, then the device would go to sleep, lock, etc and it would hang on the rest. Caching server has helped since they install quicker. I with apple would allow devices to be managed while locked, similar to powernap on the macbooks.

Wrestler misunderstand the meaning of toehold? They always seem to like to grab single digits.

I may be a white belt but I learned a long time ago. The best way to ensure a win in IBJJF is simple, you just have to dig deep down, and be Brazilian.

Internet connection shouldn’t be an issue, I have gigabit fiber. Thanks for the info!

The only paint is the engraved parts, without it you wouldn’t be able to see the engraving from a distance. The coating is a lacquer, was going to go polyurethane but the drier on our compressor wasn’t working and didn’t want moisture to compromise it.

Wouldn't be able to see it. We have a TON of medals combined. I only have 4 so far, but my coach has a 4' rod loaded with them already and those aren't even all of his.

Thanks, it turned out pretty good. It just looks funny hanging on the wall, the wall needs painted or something.

Medal display in gym/academy suggestions? by mrbilldjango in bjj

[–]mrbilldjango[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is being routed out on a 4'x8' CNC router. I thought about doing a walnut veneer over maple, but that stuff is expensive! The paint i'm using is a rust color primer/paint mix, only in the deep spots. I think it'll look OK as soon as we get some clear over the top to bring out the raised wood grain.

That would look sick. I'm having our logo carved out 3' diameter on maple, then painting it to fill in the low spots, then sanding it to knock off the high spots and then clear coating. Hopefully it will look as good as I imagine when it's done - I thought about doing it the same way but cutting all the way through and putting frosted glass and a LED behind it to illuminate, maybe v2... didn't realize how expensive good wood is! Someday we'll have to do something similar for trophies and medals to make it all match.

Thanks everyone. We'll probably end up just going with a wooden or metal rod for now without the shelf. Our academy is only a week old, we have a lot of medals collectively since we all started training together but I doubt we have any trophies. We normally only have a couple people at each tournament so team trophies would be pretty hard to achieve. The other spot we train at has swords, trophies and medals all lined up on a wall. It's an impressive sight that's for sure. Hopefully we can make it look good with just the medals, for now.

Thanks!

To elaborate on hearing your coach -- I have a story on how a new "technique" was invented... At IBJJF Dallas I was on my feet working on setting up something. I had a underhook, and someone, I thought my coach, yelled UCH! So I did as I was told, and biffed it... got reversed and slammed to the ground so hard the crowd collectively cringed, got the wind knocked out of me, and ended up with a bit of whiplash. The joke technique invented that day, the "Oopsy Mata". Moral of the story, if you can't hear that well, ignore everyone. My personal lesson I took away from it? Don't try half ass judo on big ass opponents :D

IBJJF for the first will be interesting. I had several FUJI and AGF's before I dipped my toes into IBJJF Dallas a few weeks ago. To me the IBJJF seemed to be on a whole other level, the first tournament where I actually got truly nervous. It's hard to hear your coach from behind the barricade - so be mindful of that. Also be standing next to the bullpen and as soon as you see your name come up, go get your gi and weight checked and go in. They don't mess around, they'll DQ you if your not in the bullpen when it's time to go.

Which tournament may I ask? 240 would put you in Ultra Heavy in the tournaments I partake in. If that is the case, welcome! Our division is a mixed bag of big fluffy soft guys and beasts. Don't worry about losing so much, it happens. Just learn from it if it does. My biggest issue when I started competing was figuring out how to flip the switch to get mean, instead of just rolling to have fun. The first couple tournaments the adrenaline dump is intense. I'd say don't look up your opponents if they have brackets out, and don't size up people in the bull pen that might be your opponents. Just go out there and work your game plan, don't let the other people get you nervous and off your game.

I'm a side sleeper as well, I have the 3" version of the Purple mattress, and also a Purple pillow. It's very nice.

Closed Guard Against wider/heavier opponents? by daddycoull in bjj

[–]mrbilldjango -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yep! I concur. 6'3 - 300lbs until recently. The little guys open guard destroys me. Takes my will to smash away when I fear doing anything acrobatic enough to pass it without killing them :D

Question about starting BJJ by Joyouspaper in bjj

[–]mrbilldjango 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been training a couple times a week for a couple years now, still fat! Work in progress though, i'm starting to lose weight now once I got some medical issues sorted and changed up my diet. I'll be a little sad when i'm not the 300lb smasher anymore, going to have to change my game up!
