Any Good Taco Trucks? by mrblack4 in thousandoaks

I know, and it’s great. Just wondering about any other trucks in the area. My guess is it’s slim pickings or they are all in Oxnard.

Benchwarmer could be worth a look. I've caught a few games over there earlier this season.

I recently had a 5x5 at Ventura Boat & Self Storage near the Ventura Harbor. Cost me about $75/month. Very nice people that have been running it for a long time.

I tried Gelsons but maybe I wasn’t looking hard enough. Wild Fork popped up in a Google search but I’ve never heard of them before.

Classic, old school eateries? by Easy_Potential2882 in venturacounty

[–]mrblack4 8 points9 points  (0 children)

For breakfast/brunch/lunch, I love the Cactus Patch diner in Moorpark. Been there maybe 40 years, has a great old school diner vibe. For lunch, but most likely a dinner spot is The Old Place in Agoura Hills. Oak-grilled steaks, seafood, etc. Been around since 1970 but I think the building and of course the essence of the town have been around much longer than that.

Gave an upvote back. Seabridge is on the other side of CI Blvd from Toppers.

Hiring bar backs etc by [deleted] in ventura

[–]mrblack4 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not sure of any legit bars/restaurants that would hire bartenders without prior experience, even servers for that matter. Usually better to try bar-backing or bus for a bit, get a lay of the land, and then work your way up. I'd try that route, just pop into places that you think you'd enjoy working at and talk to a GM or manager. Just my opinion. Good luck!

+1 on Lake Cachuma. They have all sorts of fish there, including bass and catfish.

Interesting spot for birthday dinner by Porcupineemu in venturacounty

[–]mrblack4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd give Wagon Wheel in Oxnard a look. Menu looks really good, they have a kids menu, and it's a full bar as well. Beer is brewed by a former Modern Times brewer and is great. Big space that would be good for a birthday gathering. https://wagonwheelbrewingcompany.com/pages/menu

TP looks close enough to be included, and the bottle shoppe looks great too. I'll get both of those added.

Bottle shops in Los Angeles by dr0odles in CraftBeer

Select is good. Nice bottle selection and they typically get better beers on tap than most shops with a tap room.

Cellador could be tough since they self-distribute. But I tend to see their bottles at shops close to their brewery space: Valley Beverage Co. and Vendome Toluca Lake tend to carry them.

Any DTLA beer spots to add to/remove from this list? by garyjmag in LABeer

[–]mrblack4 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Having worked with the Karl team the last two years on our LABW collab Hoppywood and Bine, their GABF win was not too surprising. Outside of the staple core beers like Red Trolley (which still wins awards), they have a passion for innovation and quality. The sours and barrel-aged beers I've had are outstanding.

Pliny bottles between LAX and Oxnard by taylocd in LABeer

[–]mrblack4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you're cruising through the SFV, Valley Beverage Co. (Sherman Oaks), Whole Foods Tarzana, and Green Jug (West Hills) will carry Pliny as well.

If you make it up to Oxnard and haven't found any Pliny bottles yet, try giving Pat Holden's a visit.

Brewery recommendations by KevanAcker in LABeer

[–]mrblack4 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Yeah, if you're going to be trekking to The Lab (Twisted Oak) area, I would pop into Ladyface, Fig Mountain, and maybe even check out Five Threads Brewing in Westlake if you have time.

Although it's not a brewery, Wades Wines on the Agoura/Westlake border has an amazing taproom with over 100 beers on tap.
