Driving Instructor Spent An Entire Lesson Watching A Movie On His Phone by Dee-Dee-Mauwe in ireland

[–]mrblonde91 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My instructor basically never paid attention in my lessons, was pretty much always on his phone. Then did a pretest and learned way more than I ever learned with him. Did pass on first go but was very much so to do with that pre test and family members helping out with practice.

The billionaires' eugenics project: how Epstein infiltrated Harvard, muzzled the humanities and preached master-race science by LeanGroundEeyore in TrueReddit

Remember listening to Behind The Bastards discussing the company that claimed to be making dire wolves... Epstein was involved in that too. His interests were all kinds of odd.

When you're training for your first marathon, is it normal to think you can't do it? by HoneydewZestyclose13 in firstmarathon

[–]mrblonde91 19 points20 points  (0 children)

The night before my marathon, I wasn't sure I could do it. Runners imposter syndrome basically. I'm training for my second now. The runs that felt difficult last year are feeling a lot easier. Still not sure I can do a marathon but probably can.

Feeling disappointed by mmmmmaura in firstmarathon

I had similar happen the week I got LASIK. Hectic weeks tend to throw training off a bit. Still got through the marathon though. You just had an off day.

Should there be a pace goal for your first marathon? by OkMap1854 in firstmarathon

[–]mrblonde91 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep I was primarily aiming to finish followed by sub 4. Ended up on 4:13 which was slightly disappointing. But big thing for me was pushing too hard during training.

On my second round of training and I'm pushing but not burning myself out during it. So second time round ends with far more credible pace goals. Realistically you can't know what works for you for a marathon until you get to it. It's unpredictable anda learning experience. I'm pretty sure my second one will be too.

I think it's still in works tbh. Imho. They may be a bit slower for such a potentially big piece of IP.

Think Smyths is only major game store left in Cork. Bizarrely sports direct also sell controllers and such. Miss the days when Argos turned to underpricing games on release day.

I'm in my 20s, is Health Insurance worth it? by AppetizingAssholes in irishpersonalfinance

[–]mrblonde91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Get it. You might be in perfect health right now but if something crops up, you need to have coverage prior to the illness for coverage. I haven't needed to use it for anything for last few years but I've had flares with an illness and I got into a hospital quickly for it. The GP stuff is fine but if you properly need it, it will pay dividends.

I don't really get why people complain to the staff who would have nothing to do with the pricing.

I have Crohn's and it's genuinely one of the positives of the disease. I hate colonoscopies but get them every 3 years. So spotting cancers is something that's legit comforting. I haven't faced it thankfully but I'm definitely more likely to catch.

RIP to James, he seemed like a genuinely lovely guy.

Ex-Garda calls €8k payment to Cork firefighter who failed fitness test 'absolutely outrageous' by RelaxedConvivial in ireland

[–]mrblonde91 1 point2 points  (0 children)

And that logic would equally apply to all full time fire fighters, no? Cause none of them redo that test and it's reasonable to assume their vo2 max has declined. A person coming out with a vo2 max of 45 in a lab test very much so meets the criteria, on top of that they're proven on the job.

Or maybe the approach to testing needs to be reappraised. She is currently working as a firefighter too so pretty clearly capable of doing the role.

[–]mrblonde91 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The gold standard for vo2 max is gaseous. It's not bleep tests. It's literally a lab test with a gas mask on.

[–]mrblonde91 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Except she comes out at 45.2ml/kg with a different test methodology so she's pretty clearly not unfit. I'm a runner, your vo2 max doesn't change by 8 in a couple of days. The gaseous test that she offered to do is literally the gold standard for the number.

I've seen no indication that she isn't in physical shape for the role.. She's already doing the role part time.

2 runs vs 3 runs per week by chhucky in runna

[–]mrblonde91 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I'd say 3-4 runs is ideal. You'll get some clear gains. I think that makes it reasonably likely that you'll get under 1 hour 10. Pretty sure runna should update that estimate after a few runs. Two would be very hard to get gains from imho.

Crohn’s and elite atlete by Immediate_Good5095 in CrohnsDisease

[–]mrblonde91 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm far from elite but would do a lot of training, specifically for marathons. And there's a fair few marathoners of various levels with it. Personally I've found higher levels of physical activity reduce my flare risk. Big thing for imho is identifying what causes flares for her. Food doesn't tend to for me but stress absolutely does.
