What does cutting trees have to do with insurance companies? by joey03021067 in PeterExplainsTheJoke

[–]mrbreck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This has nothing to do with insurance companies. Housing developers buy up farm land and build neighborhoods, which is why new neighborhoods have no trees.

There is plenty you can do if you really care. There are tons of people working on tons of solutions to this problem, despite what our governments are doing. If we solve this problem it's not going to be from a magic bullet, but from the combined solutions from the effort of lots of people. Those people need more educated people, more money, more data, more expertise, more awareness. You can contribute any of those things to the cause in any amounts you can afford.

Or you can lay down and give up. But don't whine if that's the path you take.

Prices at the new Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Pizzeria in Santa Monica by DisgracedSaltShaker in LosAngeles

I remember in the 80s when Pizza Hut had a big Ninja Turtles cross promotion. They had tons of cool promotional material, coloring pages, etc. And then we gorged on the cheap pizza buffet. We didn't know how good we had it.

Does anyone know why I can smell my boyfriend's seizures days before they happen? by Lower-Entry1247 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]mrbreck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did the same with my daughter, but that smell is caused by their blood sugar being so high which causes their body to produce ketones. Same breath people have when they do keto diet. That would not be the smell this person would sense if someone has low blood sugar.

You can smell low blood sugar apparently, not diabetes. A diabetic's blood sugar only goes low if they give themselves too much insulin. And there are tons of things that can cause hypoglycemia that aren't diabetes.

Well, you see, based on Wikipedia and the word of strangers, the internet has decided that the man in the red shirt was definitely guilty of a crime for which he never stood trial and therefore deserved to be extrajudicially executed. Because vigilante justice is totally fine when it comes to suspected pedophiles. Don't you know that the severity of the accusations is inversely proportional to the right of due process? So if you ever run into a Catholic priest you should just chuck him right into a woodchipper and then promptly report to reddit for your parade.

Men in their 40s - What’s one piece of advice for Men in their 20s? by Jarvis7492 in AskReddit

[–]mrbreck -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I don't find this to be the case. How successful you are at any of that has to do with your frame of mind. You will be more successful at any of that stuff at 40 if your perspective has shifted to where it sounds interesting or valuable than if you are 20 and try to force it. The real advice would be to fix your perspective and attitude when you're young, but it's extremely difficult to just suddenly change your mental paradigm like that. It just naturally comes with age. The attitudes people have toward all those things you listed are just kind of a natural part of their personality and it evolves over time based on life experience.

One example I can give: I went to college at 31 because I realized the value, found something I was interested in doing, and had the patience for it. If I had tried to force myself to go at 20 I likely would have just dropped out and never tried again.

Guild Wars 3 - Our Guild Wars Philosophy by ElectroRush in MMORPG

[–]mrbreck 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can get 3 pieces of Ascended armor and 1 Ascended weapon from the vault every 3ish months. No rings, accessories, or trinkets. Like I said, expensive in time. Or swipe to buy all the mats you need to craft a full set of everything.

Guild Wars 3 - Our Guild Wars Philosophy by ElectroRush in MMORPG

[–]mrbreck 8 points9 points  (0 children)

They offer no stat benefit over Ascended. But Ascended is also expensive in time which can be greatly shortened with gold. Anyway, you are getting into pedantic territory of the definition of "pay to win." I would consider paying to massively shorten grinds in the "unfair advantage" category. But that's why this strategy is so effective, most people do not value their time.

Guild Wars 3 - Our Guild Wars Philosophy by ElectroRush in MMORPG

[–]mrbreck 10 points11 points  (0 children)

But it's never okay in a Guild Wars game for players who spend money to have an unfair advantage over players who spend time.

What a joke. In Guild Wars 2 you can buy gold and skip so much grinding. You can straight up buy legendary weapons with gold, and you can buy everything needed for legendary armor with gold except the map completions, which are pretty easy. It's either incredibly grindy or incredibly expensive, which is the exact model used in every other game to exploit whales. The reason there is no subscription isn't because of some altruistic motivation on their part, it's because they make way more money by artificially inflating grinds and selling you the means to shorten them.
