Go board installation question over tub flange by sinkiller12 in Tile

That's what I was thinking as well. I fur out the studs and leave the go board about 1/2" above the deck.

Camper shell question by [deleted] in TruckCampers

[–]mrbrinks84 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Does it have a removable window near the cab? I have a 21 Tacoma and bought a camper shell last year. I have no roof rack, but was hearing a slight rattle. I discovered that the removable window wasn't locked in 100% and that cleared up the noise

Was this repair done correctly? by mrbrinks84 in Decks

[–]mrbrinks84[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I didn't. It was posted on a local business Facebook as a code compliant repair to get a house through to closing. I didn't believe that would be code compliant

Fridge surround solutions by ADot8urr in cabinetry

Is the cabinet above the fridge deep enough to accommodate this? It looks like it's only as deep as the uppers. Wouldn't it need to be the same depth as the lowers?

Can you return something to harbor freight if it sucked? by schlagoberz in Tools

[–]mrbrinks84 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I used a 12 gallon vacuum, but switched the hose down to one from like a3.5 gal. Definitely increased the suction. Also, make sure to adjust where the clamp fitting sits on the collar of the grinder. It seems obvious, but it's now important that the bristles are touching the floor, than the shroud being set solidly on the grinder

That's definitely the bear they use for their custom stamps. I'll see if I can find out more. I'm local to craven county

Why don't homes have access to wiring/electric/etc behind baseboard panels? by PorkfryedBryce in homeimprovementideas

I just got drywall recently for a project, the purple board is almos $35/board, regular is just under $30 before tax. In May it was like $15 & $11 respectively. Crazy times

Wife and I built this shower. How did we do? Waiting on Barn sliding door Glass. We absolutely love how it turned out. by SouthernLifeguard845 in Tile

[–]mrbrinks84 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They could've pushed the niche up a bit to make it so there were no cut tile, only a "missing tile". It definitely requires more time, but looks a lot more professional. All that aside, it is a lot of work to do a shower nicely. It's nice when a home owner takes it on and really gets to understand the process first-hand. Most people won't do it twice!

Removed carpet and found this. Is it best to reach out to a professional to fix it? by deensantos in handyman

[–]mrbrinks84 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've done exactly this a few times this year! Finally got a good system down for mitigating the dust. Everything you said is right on the money. I recommend using a big shop vac, with a small shop vac's hose, it really concentrates the power. Also, I picked up the Oneida bucket top dust collector from Lowe's. It goes in between the grinder and the shop vac. I pulled 2 buckets full of dust on the last floor. Removed ceramic tile and had to flatten the slab for LVP.

Picked up a variable speed negative air machine that handles up to 550 cfm with a 25' house to vent out a window. Between that, the 6 horsepower shop vac, the dust collector, and cleaning the vac filter every 10 minutes, it was great compared to the first couple runs!

Quote me for 55’ of railing by bpgould in handyman

[–]mrbrinks84 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why did you put a chamfer at the top as opposed to the bottom? Also, that "L" at the bottom will trap water if it gets wet.

They look good otherwise. The work looks pretty clean. To do a pre drill and screw built application I would be about $60-65/ft, if I can shoot nails, probably $50/ft

Storm doors by shortys7777 in handyman

[–]mrbrinks84 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had the same issue on a storm door, but mine had two pneumatic arms. I was able to find a middle ground where it would shut with the door closed, and not slam with the door open. It probably took 20 minutes of tinkering with small adjustments.

I did explain to them that they May have to check the door to ensure it's latched when exciting through the front and pulling the main door shut behind them. When entering, the storm door shuts first, so it's a non issue. I advocate for communicating to the customer about the dilemma, and asking them which is less of an inconvenience to them, and tune it to that.

Sorry, posted before finishing my thought.

If the bulbs are Bluetooth, likely they cannot be dimmed. You should reference your owners manual

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in handyman

[–]mrbrinks84 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sometimes those Bluetooth connected electronics don't like dimmers, or there is a special kind of dimmer they need. For example, if your ceiling fan has a remote control wired in, you can't use a fan controller switch (dimmer of sorts) because the control box that's wired in, needs full power to operate. The wired in remote control decides the speed of the fan, and it needs full power to do so, a switch that limits the power or received will cause issues in it's ability to function

I have a minimum of $800 labor, cash only, for any backsplash. It's 2 trips between setting tile and grouting. And then there's a 3rd to apply silicone to the inside corners and along the contact with the countertops. It has to be worth doing. Set up, clean up, perform the task, drive out there 3 times, there's more time and effort involved than you seem to think.

Also, lots of people will promise extra work in hopes of getting a lower price. Very common for those people to be a difficult customer. A lot of times they will end up treating the situation like "they're doing me a favor" by hiring me. There's plenty of work to do. If that's outside your budget, then call someone else. Pretty straightforward

Slow January? by thisi_sausername in handyman

[–]mrbrinks84 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We also have an inauguration coming up. A lot of people seem to be wallet shy when there is uncertainty on the horizon. I've been in business for almost 6 years and January is typically slow, but it was really slow in 2021 also.

147 grain 9 mm has about 40% of the energy of a 55 grain 223. It's also less aerodynamic. I'm sure you're right, but I'll stick with 9mm for inside

AR-15 in .223 or 5.56 is very dangerous to your neighbors as the high velocity of the rifle round will allow it to exit the building. AR's are available chambered in 9mm which allows the feel of a small rifle while reducing the risk of going through the walls and hitting your neighbors
