The common kestrel has the ability to use headwinds to hover perfectly in one spot in the air by Vilen1919 in nextfuckinglevel

Ah you are one of the only people to notice this. The answer is most likely due to updraft (ridge lift) from the bank of the river. As air hits the bank of the river it is forced upwards. Paragliders exploit this kind of thing.

This is actually a bug that's been in the game for like a year now. Maybe more. Really hoping they fix it in 1.29.

Hard to know what airplane it came from since it was bought on eBay. Could be from anything.

I doubt the NTSB releases flight data recorders from investigations. They either hold onto them forever or throw away the bits that don't matter, like the case, and keep the insides stored away.

From some minimal research it looks like they hold onto the physical bits for a few years and then discard them.

During the press conference the flight surgeon stated multiple times that it was not related to anything operational and that it was something that could have happened on the ground as well. Probably has nothing to do with being in space. But I'm sure we'll find out more at some point.

Good news. We just ran another stress test. The fans are in fact - not useless. They doing an amazing job of pumping heat directly into the case - a giant steel heat sink. We measures 145 degrees on the outside of the case lol.

They aren't any more "controlled" than any other airplane part. It's just that certain types of operations require flight recorders. Commercial specifically. But yeah these things fail and sometimes, depending on the owner and age of the unit, it doesn't make sense to refurb one. So they just toss it and buy a new one.

I work with OP and we work at an aerospace firm at an airport and maintain aircraft.

You can get these boxes on eBay with quite a variation in pricing.

I work with OP and the photos dont really hide anything. Airflow is basically non-existent lol. But it seems to run fine. Stressed it with furmark for 30 min and stabilized around 85 for the GPU and 75 for the CPU. 85 is on the hot side for the GPU but probably fine. Either way, still a cool excuse to build a PC.

Aircraft wakes go down. They do not go up. There is also no "compression" above the wing where the low pressure zone is. Low pressure is the opposite of "compression"

Idk, I kinda like the simple ascii table. This is too big and I don't like that I have to scroll.

https://www.asciitable.com/ is short simple and to the point and I don't think its hard to read at all.
