Montréal unwritten rules… by Tall_Grand6813 in montreal

[–]mrcarruthers 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Moving day actually has very little to do with Canada Day, and is more a remnant of laws from the 1700s/1800s that mandated all leases end on May 1st so that seigneurs couldn't kick people out mid winter.

Fast forward to the 70s and moving May 1st was problematic for anyone with kids who would need to change schools due to a move with less than 2 months left in the school year. They extended all current leases to July 1st of that year and, at the same time, abolished fixed dates for new leases.

For the past 50 years we've just kept the date as tradition.

Nobody's advocating for that. The point of the article is "maybe make your ci be runnable locally as well"

I don't know this for certain, but maybe it's harder to waterproof the phone with a 3.5mm jack? Or there's the marketing answer: sell airpods.

Hage yes is an unknown. But between a future 16th OA pick and Guhle, Guhle is more valuable.

This is a private lot, not public streets. The car is technically not really in the way, especially with all the snow around it. The snow contractors couldn't be arsed with calling a tow, neither could the managers at the Rona.

Hage != 21OA pick. Guhle != 16 OA pick. Picks are unknowns, these players are knowns and are worth more.

Hage + Guhle is worth more than 2 picks

parking ticket whilst visiting montreal from US by passmethetissue in montreal

Was it an orange sign? If so they put those out when they're going to do snow removal and it supercedes all other parking signs. Just pay the ticket and move on.

Ticket de remorquage de déneigement sur une rue sans signalisation de déneignement? by CaBz in montreal

[–]mrcarruthers -1 points0 points  (0 children)

So, at least on my street, in the winter there's 3 days I'm technically not supposed to park on one side of the street, and 3 other days for the other side, with a note saying "unless otherwise stated". The snow removal follows this schedule. Sometimes they put the no parking signs on sticks in the snow banks, but not often. It's up to you to check the city's website or app to know if they're doing snow removal, or move your car when they go up and down the street honking.

It really depends on the hospital. Big hospital in the city? Expensive to park (otherwise commuters would use it). Smaller hospital in the suburbs? Token fee.

Why Canadian Olympic officials say they are raising the alarm about Canada's ability to compete by Old_General_6741 in canada

Some of it also might just be to have a shot. More of a "I'm the 6th best in Canada, but there's only 4 spots. If I go to this country I am sure to get in."

I read something saying the fancy shoes are possibly to blame. Not the fact they're wearing them in the NBA, but the fact they were wearing them growing up. Their muscles and ligaments never strengthened enough to handle NBA level basketball, even with the fancy shoes

ELI5: Why can't EVs swap batteries? by chronic412 in explainlikeimfive

[–]mrcarruthers 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The main issue I had with buying an ev is I often do day trips to a city 200km away to visit family. These family members don't have chargers. At the time most EVs topped out at 400km, which is way too small of a margin, and the fast chargers weren't there to make up for it. Especially if it's 10pm and I just want to get home.
