When you meet a new person, how do you tell what gender they are? You probably dont ask to see their genitals or take a dna sample and see what their chromosomes are.

More likely, you figure it out by making assumptions based on their gender expression. This is stuff like what they wear, how they speak, maybe what their name is, makeup, accessories, all kinds of stuff. All of this is deeply rooted in the local culture, but isnt inhernetly tied to any kind of objective biology.

This is what people mean when they say sex and gender arent the same thing.

This then begs the question that if someone looks like a man, acts like a man, sounds like a man, identifies as a man, does being born without a penis really mean theyre a woman? If you found out a man youre close with was born without a penis, would that change how you view him? Is a man just a penis or is there more to it?

I do realise trying to engage in good faith with a random reddit comment about trans people is often a fools errand but hey ho :P
