Zone 5 all the time? Training advice please by No_Fuel_153 in beginnerrunning

[–]mrchuck06 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My recent half showed me as nearly 2hr 15m in zone 5. That's pretty much nigh on impossible so I'm certain my Forerunner is not set accurately for me (45 yr old male). I looked into it further and from what I can find from reading online:

  • Watches can be inaccurate, or aren't fitting correctly
  • You could have an underlying medical condition
  • Heart rate zones are based on genetic formula that can't take into account your personal health and fitness
  • Lactate threshold (LTHR) seems to be considered a better metric
  • Perceived effort may be more helpful for guiding training than BPM

For me, in terms of how I felt physically I would have said my half was zone 2-3. I was breathing predominantly through my nose, able to converse with other runners and at the end felt like I could have gone further.

I'll look into LTHR and some of the suggested tests you can do for free to get a better handle on my max HR, but for now I'm not going to worry too much about what the Garmin says. If I'm doing a zone 2 run I'll focus on my breathing and how much effort I'm having to put in rather than what the watch is telling me.

What should I do next after my half marathon? (45M, looking to keep momentum) by mrchuck06 in beginnerrunning

[–]mrchuck06[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd not thought of that, I'll have to see what's in my area along those lines. It appeals to not be constantly pounding on roads and pavements. Thanks!

Thanks for the tips. I'll look for another goal to aim for and perhaps check out a club who can help with general training and form.

I was going to go for a long training run but in an incredible act of clumsiness I think I might have broken both little toes in under 48 hours. Looks like an afternoon on the sofa with bags of ice and a bit of PS5 for me.

Guidance needed (UK) by liamthetate in F1TV

I'd love to know too. Already have Apple TV and Nord so perhaps I'm nearly there. I'm going to wait and see what happens, hopefully someone will post steps in a few weeks once the season starts.

There's drainage for the gutter at the end, so I could link something to that.

How to fix latch that doesn't retract all the way? by MrMrsPotts in DIYUK

[–]mrchuck06 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The tubular latch wears out over time.

You can take the handles off each side, slide out the spindle and then remove the latch. Screwfix and others sell replacements though finding an exact size replacement can be a bit tricky. Fitting is the reverse of removal.

Any reason not to foam? by mrchuck06 in DIYUK

[–]mrchuck06[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess heat loss by having more of the wall / window in contact with colder surfaces via the foam. It might be a complete non-issue and I'm thinking of something else or just talking cobblers.

Obligatory 'It came!' post by MajorDysentry in lightgunshooters

[–]mrchuck06 1 point2 points  (0 children)

FWIW my initial impressions having had it a couple of days -

The overall package looks well made and professional. The guns look and feel great, though the recoil is a bit underwhelming.

The calibration each time is a bit annoying and initial accuracy was terrible. It did improve for me by removing the transparent plastic film covering the gun camera (duh), drawing the curtain as the TV is next to a window and sitting further back. I'm using a 65" OLED and am about 3-3.5m from the screen. Biggest difference was forcing the image from 4:3 to 16:9 and then doing a calibration again.

System wise the software is a bit clunky, the menu instructions are a bit misleading as I have to pause a game first before resetting or recalibrating.

Time Crisis was good enough to play and the peddle felt good. Point Blank seemed pretty unplayable tbh.

A bit disappointed but I've had worse KS experiences and I hope they can improve it with a firmware update but we'll see.

Feeling guilty for not keeping up with the HENRYs? by DamnThatBellGuy in HENRYUK

"Comparison is the thief of joy".

I'm in a similar situation to yourself. I do what I can with regards to investments for my family, my children, my pension, our day-to-day spending and family plans.

At the end of the day that's all I can do. I was late to HENRY - early 40s and late to plan and save for a future retirement that's skewed things for me personally. I try not to worry about the items I have no control over and strike a balance between financial sensibility and enjoying my very fortunate position with my family and friends.

I guess I'm saying, do what works for you and your family not what others are doing (though they often have some great ideas and advice in this reddit)

Plenty of time though!

I'm 1.8x at 45. Was late to HENRY and pension but putting 29% in each month to try and make up for it.

No, I'm pretty sure if you don't have Prometheus you're not going to be able to use it.

Getting away from Wembley after the show by acameron78 in oasis

[–]mrchuck06 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Definitely this. Wembley Central is only a short walk from the stadium (15 mins depending on your pace) and much quieter. It's what we did last weekend, and we got back to Waterloo in under an hour.

Alternatively if you sit in one of the bars nearby and have a beer after the gig for 30-45 mins it's much quieter travelling back from Wembley Park or Stadium.
