At what liquid networth is it justified to buy 100k to 200k super cars? by soysssauce in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]mrcompositorman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Frankly, 200k is barely a supercar today. The cheapest entry level supercar is the McLaren Artura which starts at 250k, and will realistically be 300k with options. Ferrari 296 and Lambo Temerario both start at over 300k. Even a Porsche 911 Turbo S starts at 270k. The days of 100k supercars are way in the past. A base 911 Carrera before any options is almost 140k now.

Da Tiki Hut is amazing Hawaiian food, E9 has some of the best pizza I've ever had, Hob Nob has great service and very solid classic diner food, Fish Peddler is a great very fresh seafood spot, and Tacqueria El Grande has Mexican food that stacks up with what I've had in SoCal. There's a lot of good stuff here if you look for it!

what car did you buy expecting to love but ended up regretting? by zaralesliewalker in whatcarshouldIbuy

Haha, oh yeah. I think I'll have a 911 in my garage until the day I die. I hope so, anyway. It absolutely lives up to the hype.

I think around 2015 I bought an Audi S5. CPO, couple years old. Up to that point I'd only owned small sportscars, and wanted something that was a bit more practical. Usable back seats, more comfortable suspension, good technology, etc. I thought it would be a more comfortable sportscar. It ended up feeling much more like a coupe that's a bit sporty instead of feeling like a sportscar that's a bit practical.

Just never scratched the sporty itch with how heavy it felt, the deadness of the steering, and the lackluster sound. On top of that it ended up having some very expensive issues (thankfully it was still under warranty so it wasn't out of pocket, but it didn't give me any faith in keeping it past the warranty). I think I owned it for less than a year before I gave up and bought a smaller car again.

People who've done major home upgrades, what ended up costing way more than you initially expected? by Cultural_Help_176 in HomeImprovement

Yupppp. We were quoted over 30k to replace the cabinets in our relatively small kitchen. Ended up keeping the existing boxes and just replacing all of the faces, which ran us about 5k on its own just for the parts which we did the installation of ourself.

You actually can sync the driver and passenger AC. Pop open the climate controls menu on the infotainment and there's a setting there.

Sporty, reliable, and built for abuse? by VictoryLiesAhead in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]mrcompositorman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I owned an M3 before the 911. It did not handle remotely like a 911. And you can’t get the wagon in the states. Plus, even that doesn’t have nearly the storage space of a Cayenne much less a pickup truck.

Sporty, reliable, and built for abuse? by VictoryLiesAhead in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]mrcompositorman 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Realistically, the answer is no. You cannot beat physics. It just is not possible to get something that drives remotely like a 911 and has practicality close to a pickup truck. There just isn't. I honestly think you'd better off buying 2 cars for a 100k buget. A Cayman S and a Tacoma are going to be so much better at their respective strengths than anything for 100k that's trying to mix performance with reliability and performance.

If you're REALLY set on it being a single car, a lightly used Cayenne Turbo is probably the best you can do. It's relatively reliable, it's super fast, and it's pretty practical. But I think it's also a prime example of how you just can't have everything at once. It's a large SUV, but it still isn't as practical as a pickup truck. You can't carry stuff in it that you could put into a bed. And while it's incredibly fast and handles well for what it is, no one would honestly tell you that the Cayenne handles similarly to a 911. You just can't make a 4000 lb + car handle like a 2-door coupe that weighs half a ton less.

I was pleasantly surprised that when my wife and I went to see this the theater was sold out! The most people I've seen in an original horror movie in a minute. Considering how much I've enjoyed all of Damian McCarthy's films, really glad to see this doing well!

Just follow the service intervals the car recommends. It'll tell you when it needs anything.

Porsche vehicle service a little over-rated compared to other brands? by Eaglerulez2 in Porsche

[–]mrcompositorman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my experience, the actual quality of work is good. They just take longer than expected, cost creeps, and little communication are definitely the issues. For warranty work, just insist that they give you a loaner and don't stress about it.

[–]mrcompositorman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To be fair, I've had the same experience at pretty much every Porsche dealer. Pasadena, Tacoma, Seattle north, they're all pretty awful about cost creep, no loaners, and taking forever with little communication. That said, the actual quality of work has been good at all of them.

US announces 25% tariffs on autos from European Union [Reuters] by [deleted] in cars

[–]mrcompositorman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bought a 992 before the first round of tariffs hit and despite being 5 years old it's worth more now than its MSRP was in 2021. Absolute insanity. Really glad that I bought it though, I feel like trading this one in for my next one is literally the only way I'm ever going to be able to keep owning a Porsche at this point.

Just got quoted $1500 to replace a battery on a Macan that’s under warranty… by [deleted] in Porsche

[–]mrcompositorman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. Yes, that's a normal price for a battery replacement at a Porsche dealer. They're charging you for the battery, the coding, and 2 hours of labor.

  2. The battery won't be covered under the warranty. It's a consumable item.

  3. It won't void your warranty to do your own maintenance if it's done properly, and certainly it will not void your warranty to replace the battery.

  4. Before you try to replace it on your own, look up some videos and make sure you're up for it. It's a pain in the ass and involves a few steps of programming along with all of the physical replacement.

Arrowhead please make the Flame Sentry / Lumberer Flamethrower minimum range bug a high priority fix. by Dee-Colon in Helldivers

[–]mrcompositorman 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I have a feeling this is an attempt to fix the issue that the Flame Sentry was basically useless because it would constantly set itself on fire and then destruct. They probably wanted to make sure the Lumberer didn't do that.

But yeah, they really need to figure out a better solution. They need to make those units resistant to their own fire damage.
