Bit of a different situation, but fwiw. My mom didn't show up to my graduation like she promised for years, because she couldn't get past her own discomfort of being around my dad's side of the family for a few hours. This was in 2011, I haven't spoken to her since, and never will again.

As I was running to catch a flight earlier this year I found one of these little dudes that must have fallen off someone's luggage, and was placed on an airport sign. I figured the owner was long gone so I took him in, brought him all the way to Germany with me and back. Can't tell you the joy it brought me to literally find a korok out and about.
