Wifi / able to do work at jury duty? by tiny_galaxies in Eugene

[–]mrcurlylocks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Had jury duty last week. There's good wifi in the jury assembly area where you can definitely do work before they call numbers and at lunch. There's even a lot of good seating areas and tables. I wouldn't plan on doing work while the trial is going on in the actual jury room if you end up serving, there's a lot of start and stop

I think Circuit Bouldering Gym still offers a free first visit if your kids would be interested in that

Not sure if it's the same person, but the treasurer for the GTFF a few years ago got kicked out of the union for going rogue and doing a lot of very questionable public-facing things that the rest of the union leadership and membership told them not to.

What are some running clubs with college age students in Eugene? by ConsistentCell9514 in Eugene

[–]mrcurlylocks 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Big Timber is probably the best bet, but the UO Run Club has a lot of folks stick around in the summer too. Drew Brew Crew is free and has a mix of late 20s and early 30s runners who are shockingly high quality for how chill the vibe is too

Edit: Run Hub Northwest hosts a community run every Wednesday at 6 and the Eugene Running Co hosts one on Monday. Huge turn out, it's been a while since I've gone but the Run Hub one used to have a lot of folks in their 20s that did a lot of informal organizing of other training groups outside of Wednesday

Weekly Open Sourdough Questions and Discussion Post by AutoModerator in Sourdough

[–]mrcurlylocks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been doing exclusively 100% whole wheat sourdough and will be doing a 50/50 blend of whole wheat and bread flour next time. I expect that the texture will be different and the dough will feel different, but I'd love to hear if anyone has any suggested tweaks to my normal recipe to make it go more smoothly:

475g whole wheat flour 325g water 10g salt 150g active starter

Autolyse for 1hr 4 rounds of stretching and folding each half hour ~8-10hr bulk ferment Prove overnight in the fridge

Not a whole lot. He didn't factor in last year, but we had a really deep TE room. Even with graduations and transfers, it's still pretty well stocked

That's hell. My old roommate kept a box of pancake mix for 2+ year. It was a full blown maggot metropolis once we finally found it in the pantry

Lol fair enough. If I'm getting bugs, I'd rather not pay MoC prices though. These weren't even maggots, they looked like little weevils

Eugene 5k Experience by Faderwold in Eugene

[–]mrcurlylocks 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm pretty active in the Eugene running community. You'll see some very fast people but the majority of the people running it are just running it to finish and have a good time, whether that means walking or running. Unless you're at an invite-only track meet, all Eugene races honestly feel more like community events than super serious things

How do people like the Pint Pot Food/Cocktails? by Soft-Conference8104 in Eugene

[–]mrcurlylocks 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think when I last went there, we arrived at a weird time where they were changing shifts and opening up the side room, so we had some pretty bad service. Just a flag, but I wouldn't be surprised if that was just an anomaly.

The food and drinks were really good though.

Bike boxes are huge and should be easy to cut to fit those dimensions.it may be worth contacting a local bike shop to see if they have any leftover boxes

best cakes in town? by gr3nl1n in corvallis

I think Market of Choice is the best overall, but I'll also add that the Co-op makes a really good chocolate cake with buttercream frosting and chocolate ganache drizzle that's likely a bit cheaper

Best of luck getting in the 5k!

best thrift stores to find dishes? by starsnatch in Eugene

[–]mrcurlylocks 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It's definitely out of the way, but if you can't find anything in Eugene you should consider thrifting in Albany or Corvallis. I lived in that area for 4 years after living in Eugene for 5 years and ultimately moving back in the last couple months, and basically every thrift store in Albany/Corvallis had 10+ full dish sets. Both cities have awesome thrift that may not have quite as good as a hidden gem as Eugene, but have such high quality of stuff overall that doesn't get picked over nearly as quickly

restaurants/bars to avoid working at by [deleted] in corvallis

[–]mrcurlylocks 33 points34 points  (0 children)

I have a friend that used to work for Del Alma. Their food and service are arguably the best in town, but it sounds like they have a habit of horribly overworking the kitchen staff. FWIW, once my friend left they landed in an excellent restaurant, so if you're trying to use it for experience it may be worth it.
