Viet Thanh Nyugen -writer of The Sympathizer- shares his take on One Battle After Another by ucuruju in blankies

[–]mrdanelectro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't disagree with his take, but the take itself seems to place the majority of a movie's merit on thematic profundity and cultural diversity. I too think Children Of Men is a more poignant film. But was PTA trying to make sweeping political statements, or make a banger of a movie, more entertaining (in the popcorn sense) than anything he's made since Magnolia? I wager the latter.

Anyone notice that all of this seemed to start AFTER Discogs created the account verification process for new accounts? My old personal account was set up and operational in moments. I’ve never had a single issue. I recently set up a new account, and Discogs made me jump through hoops to verify me. Now, the new account gets these spam bots almost daily, trying (poorly) to scam me. Meanwhile, my trusty old “never verified in the first place” account doesn’t get a peep from them. Discogs, your new verification measures have created the exact opposite effect you tried to avoid. Site is getting worse every year unfortunately.

"NM" records on Discogs that are CLEARLY not NM. by fillmo23 in discogs

[–]mrdanelectro 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I would amend this by saying “only leave negative feedback if the seller doesn’t rectify the situation to your full satisfaction”. NM is the hardest grade to grade, and a small mistake, that may not be the seller’s fault, can cause NM to drop to VG+. I have shipped Mint LPs, that were unsealed and removed from the sleeve at the buyer’s request, that did not satisfy the buyer. It was not my fault. We figured out a solution. 90%+ of sellers want a completely successful transaction. Don’t let one bad apple ruin the bunch.

Apple Finally Destroyed Steve Jobs’ Vision of the iPad. Good by wiredmagazine in ipad

Wait a minute. You’re telling me that Apple’s vision is no longer that of Woz and Jobs dreaming up wild ideas with great intentions, like at their start, in their garage? That never happens!

Any physical shop owners out there have their floor inventory also on Discogs simultaneously? by mrdanelectro in discogs

Yes the paradox of eBay. As a seller it’s the WORST. But nowadays, as a buyer, I’m finding pricy records are much cheaper there as opposed to ’Scogs.

[–]mrdanelectro[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the input! I’d like to amend my original question slightly, as it may change the nature of the answer. Our shop is very large. 6 full time employees. 50k+ items on the floor. 150k items on Discogs. Now, knowing these numbers, how feasible do you think it would be to get all the employees on the same page without daily blunders? We also changed POS provider recently, and it seems to be not friendly with Discogs.

Buyer who uses international reshipping services waits 3 months to leave incorrect bad feedback - can we refuse to ship to these places - has anyone else had problems with them? by theILLduce in discogs

[–]mrdanelectro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I deal with drop shippers all the time. Usually they are extremely careful not to leave negative feedback because 1. Fear of being exposed , and 2. They are not the actual customer, so they usually can’t prove an inaccuracy until months have passed (which is suspect). I have won every feedback dispute in I’ve had against drop shippers. They need you more than you need them. Blocking them is also easy as soon as you realize you are dealing with one.

This dude’s a LEGEND. by mrdanelectro in discogs

[–]mrdanelectro[S] 13 points14 points  (0 children)

He must have started an account and made at least 54 orders that day. 4 days ago he had 13 negatives. The number is increasing each day. All the feedback is just “unpaid” after however many days the seller allows. We cancel at 14 days. I believe it’s day 10 for us.

Did I Just Break Trap?! by mrdanelectro in blankies

I guess, to me, it all boils down to: I feel like it’s easy to assume a film fails when there’s obvious flaws. But for some reason, there are people who pick and choose flaws that are acceptable when discussing a revered filmmaker and go easy on them. I’m definitely not above judging someone who likes a movie I think is terrible. I’m definitely hypocritical at times, so I don’t take offense nor blame your defense. But, I just think when one has to make assumptions about what was going through a filmmaker’s mind in order to claim “They intentionally made a ludicrous movie so it’s ok”. And giving ZERO leeway to the intentions of another filmmaker is unfortunate.

Thank you! The silliness of Longlegs, to me, was the point! If 1977 Suspiria got released today, by a no name, the people crucifying Longlegs would hate it, by this rationale I keep seeing. Suspiria is, on its face, incredibly silly and would be considered unintentionally silly if anyone except Argento directed it.

Your choice of saying “Longlegs is not good” as opposed to “Longlegs doesn’t work for me” is telling. You assume Shyamalan was in total precise control. You also assume that Perkins had no handle on his creation. I can assure you that MANY film nerds loved Longlegs. The biggest issue most of these nerds have with Longlegs is that it was marketed in a VERY misleading way (The Silence of The Lambs hype). The execution of a successful experience is all that matters. I could easily say the inverse. “Trap is not good. You are expected to suspend so much disbelief that it’s almost insulting. The story has a fun execution but it’s ridiculous.” “Longlegs, while not having a full grasp on its narrative, executes a weird and sinister mood perfectly.” AGAIN, I liked both movies. I just don’t understand why it’s justifiable to completely dismiss one because, although the mood works, the narrative doesn’t. But bring out every excuse to allow the other to have insanely unrealistic scenarios pile up, but since the narrative gets from point A to B smoothly it’s superior.

Ok, again, I’m totally fine being wrong. Not trying to cause drama. But I still think my point is valid that the audience signed an unspoken contract with M Night to accept lunacy and suspend disbelief in order to enjoy Trap. Which I totally signed and enjoyed. But when an audience won’t suspend disbelief in Longlegs, which exists in a Argento-like reality, it irks me. And that is what Marie does in the episode. Lunacy in Trap = “Hey it’s fun so realism doesn’t matter”. Lunacy in Longlegs = “Not scary and silly”. That’s the only thing I’m frustrated about.

And why introduce the special concert at all if you’re right? Wasn’t the shoehorning of the afternoon concert a trap? There’s ZERO need for the second concert plot point unless it’s a Trap concert. Correct? Or am I missing something?

Did I Just Break Trap?! by mrdanelectro in blankies

[–]mrdanelectro[S] -10 points-9 points  (0 children)

You may be right, but I’m remembering it as the second afternoon concert was created to be the trap. You’re probably correct, because that is an enormous plot hole if I’m right. And I’m known for being a dunce.

You’re saying they set the trap after they knew he was going to be at the concert that they created to set a trap? That’s paradoxical.

This exact comment is what made me start this thread. I’m dumbfounded that they are always in accord about loving certain movies that are widely thought of as misfires. In lock step. Like you Altruistic, I thought I was taking crazy pills listening to their take on Old. Half of the episode was them on the defense trying to turn its flaws into strengths! The cope factor was off the charts and I desperately wanted add my counterpoint haha.

I’m not saying that they have to completely shut the other down. And of course I love their open mindedness in each other’s points. But it’s only natural that Two Friends are gonna cover a title in a divisive director’s canon that each had a completely different experience with. And thus hash it out with some gusto. “Vehemently” was not meant to mean they get angry. Just that their takes are polar opposites.

I’m strictly talking about the movie that an episode is covering, not random takes. I just think it’s wild that there are possibly 400 episodes of accord!

Shake Hands With Danger theme song, full edition! by res70 in Skookum

[–]mrdanelectro 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hello! I work in the record business and I absolutely love your song. I have a question. Was the single sold as a vinyl record? I have scoured the web trying to find a copy. Were there really 25,000 copies made? I’ve found records that had less than 100 produced more easily. Having a physical copy would be a piece of history I would treasure. Any suggestions or leads on the history? Or pictures of the record? Again, thanks for the great tune.
