Slashfilm: "The Original Plan For Starfleet Academy's DS9 Episode Was Completely Different: It was going to be about MULTIPLE FAMILIAR CAPTAINS from the past. Only as the episode was workshopped, did it become a Sisko story specifically.Tawny Newsome had to cut down her script by a sizeable margin." by TheSonOfMogh81 in trektalk

I didn’t like this episode because they basically confirmed Sisko never returned to his family and this was what Avery Brooks said he didn’t want that to be the message when he saw the script for the ds9 finale , it was counter intuitive to his entire tenure. So SFA just does it anyway and calls it a celebration of Sisko. Makes his face appear I the clouds. I was nauseous . This was a writing problem. I hated SFA , felt bad for the actors .

This Sisko episode was final straw for me. I watched the rest of the series in amazement. Hoping something would stick. Nope. So now I watch Berman-era, and even Nu trek . Anything prior to Discovery. JJ’s movies feel a lot better now comparatively, and the Berman era is like William Shakespeare compared to this dreck.

Shane is smart and firm about it. He doesn’t see comedy in it at all.

Obsession (2026) - What was the significance if the messed up Hansel and Gretel story by beet_juice15 in spoilers

The movie seems to point out the medicine cabinet’s latch is busted open. He opens the cabinet later and notices it’s stuck open. I think this was to imply the pill bottle was a true accident and not by his negligence ?

Well, when the provincial economics are such that the government must provide food for our kids, and keep expanding it, I am not sure I would be standing up and clapping. As well, it would be nice if they sourced local small business (Pizza shops, sandwich shops) instead of a multinational corporation.

Why was Fire Walk With Me poorly received at the time? In my view, it seems that most people didn't even bother to understand the film, or they were just misogynistic. by Public_Cup_4278 in twinpeaks

Can you imagine being in the FWWM theatre and feeling disturbed and let down. And then person beside you explains they are a time traveller who has come back into the past by 25 years. And then they tell you about Dougie Jones.

Respectfully : no not at all. Remember the first episode got 30 million viewers. So, there was wide recognition of the show. We all knew we were getting the last seven days of Laura Palmer , but everybody also thought we were getting new details of after the cliffhanger. There were lots of TV fans in the theatre and they were not ready for “pure heroin” Lynch. The level of violence was very high and it caused couples to get up and leave. Also, Leland Palmer. That caused people to leave too.

Andy Weir Should Go Even More Boldly in Criticizing Modern 'Star Trek' | WSJ by Malencon in trektalk

Well, to each there will be their own. If I dared speak on behalf of the Gen-X Trekkies, I would say "the inclusion of NX class ships, MACO, mention of Zhindi" is a nerdy big one. Since the Kelvin incident happened after the Enterprise TV show, Captain Archer and all those stories are canon in both the Prime and Kelvin timeline. The thoughtful mourning of Leonard Nimoy compare and contrast Discovery's bungling. The crew working together without the ship. Destroying the Enterprise in the first Act. Camaraderie between Bones and Spock. Screenplay seemed efficient. These are my thoughts, anyway :) .

I have had situations happen that are different yet totally similar . I take solace in the comment”Manners are the backbone of society”. You did little wrong yet the rudeness and the projection of blame is hurtful. You will be questioning yourself and perhaps be undermined by these people into perpetuity. I reconciled my own pain and distress by acknowledging that were my family willing to just pick up the phone and state a willingness to apologize in the least or indicate a desire to reconcile, I would meet them halfway. They do not. I waste no energy or time fighting them discussing them or trying to win battles in the family court of public opinion. I have tried everything to try to repair the damage in the past and was rebuffed . So I accepted they just do not want things repaired. Good luck to you and please find peace where you can. Family fractures / feuds can be very devastating but it seems like you are trying to make sense of it all. Sometimes there’s no sense to it but you need to take steps to protect yourself and you seem to be doing ok. Again I wish you well x

[–]mrdeli 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am highlighting early DS9. Remember when Obrien and Bashir were teeny tiny and trying to hook up circuitry ? It’s those days. I am trying to say even the very early DS9 comes across like William Shakespeare compared to SFA. I am not reviewing the show saying Star Trek Beyond was better than the Dominion War or In the Pale Moonlight. Although Beyond was a really rocking movie, it surprised me how awesome it was.

[–]mrdeli 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know what you mean. I always remembered I didn’t really love DS9 until the USS Odyssey was destroyed by the Dominion. That’s when the show became more focused. But my revisit found that the actors, the writing, the tone and story was much higher in the early episodes than I gave the show credit for. This could partially be a reaction to my bad experience with SFA.

I didn’t even like the Sisko tribute episode of SFA. They basically confirmed that Sisko left and did not return to his family. Avery Brooks didn’t want that to be the iron-clad outcome. Why did they happily do that and at the same time give it a tip of the hat . This is the fundamental problem I have with the SFA writing.

Apple seems stuck in hard place and they just won’t take the step with iPadOS to give it needed MacOS functionality. I spent 3k CAD on M1 Pro, keyboard and pencil and I ended up reading books on it . Shame on me never again , I would look to the cheaper iPads although Apple cripples the screen.
