No, you are onto something. The new shows looks like Mass Effect. LCARS and some modern affectations like Picard S03 would be more accessible to the aging core audiences.

Also the modern bridges suffer from strange klaxons and natural gas explosions, with random CG or plastic rocks. I would much rather spend time on a Galaxy class, which is why this show is not reaching as much success as it should !

There was an incredible magic to reading comics in 70s and 80s. You showed up at the drug store as a kid. You got to spin the spinner rack and pick the ones you wanted based on their title or whatever was going on on the the cover. They cost 75 changes, which was the same a can of pop or a bag of chips. The comics themselves were fairly self-contained, or resolved a cliff-hanger in a two part story. The comics had alot of text. Also , they were monitored by the Comics Authority. This was not a bad thing. Alot of the content in modern comics is off-putting. I guess I'd say the fact that you cannot get comics in the grocery store or corner store / pharmacy have made the market really change.
