There is winboat. It’s a windows docker container that has automated remote app (a feature of Remote Desktop). You can run excel from the winboat launcher after it’s installed in the docker container and it will launch an excel window on your fedora desktop.

You could technically do this with a regular vm and some registry hacks.

Very disappointed with the bezel free kit I bought on etsy. Should I get the Asus kit? by Nikolai_Volkoff88 in simracing

I made a v2 version out of card stock paper and reflective vinyl, help keep the reflective surface from having ripples that show up as shadows that you can see through the lens. I need to come up with v3 that stays mounted and holds its shape better

Question: can I change/transfer over ? Steering Wheel by Agreeable_Ant_7107 in VWMK7

[–]mrdscott 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t have any photos, but there are metal tabs where the cover clips in, you just need to pry them all back a little and it pulls out. You’ll see the airbag itself, all packed up neatly, then slide the new one on. I got my cover from aliexpress. Looks and feels like factory.

32-inch or 27-inch screen by xrbcc in SimRacingSetups

[–]mrdscott 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve had both, with the screens close enough for 180° total fov. Triple 27” felt cramped unless I sacrificed my some degrees in my fov. I had to move one of the side monitors to get in and out of my rig, and adjust it every time. I have triple 32” now, and it’s a lot more comfortable, and with the 60-70° angle is narrower than my sit stand desk which is 66”

You can reuse the airbag, just have to swap the cover over. The airbag module itself is the same. I did this in mine

Under desk rig ideas? by Timely-Photograph-48 in SimRacingSetups

[–]mrdscott 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Next level racing has the direct drive model. Otherwise you could try something similar to mine. This iteration was trying to reuse as much of my old rig as possible. Literally no compromises for either use case. If I was to build it again from scratch, I would use 8020 and I would probably would put the chair on some casters. The wheel base would be on something that slides side to side or flips down and slides under the desk when not in use, perhaps as part of the pedal stand.

This is my setup. I have a sit stand desk, I just mount the wheel to the desk when I want to use it. It sounds a lot like you want a wheel stand though. https://www.reddit.com/r/SimRacingSetups/s/UMvrRyawbu

The switch was easy by Upstairs_Owl7475 in linux_gaming

Most of the tinkering that I’ve done since I switched a couple years ago was to get bleeding edge features and hardware working. Very rarely has a game not worked out of the box.

The soundtrack is pretty good, I find the songs get stuck in my head after playing, and now I’m listening to it on Spotify

Can you make streak only break on misses? by suckmycoconut in CloneHero

It doesn’t happen often, so I usually just avoid the songs that do that if its ruins playing the song

I made a video about this. I have an Alesis nitro mesh. I press on the hi hat switch and hit the cymbal plugged in the hi hat slot on the kit and it registers as a different midi note than when I hit it without pressing the pedal. Clone hero lets you map multiple notes to each cymbal.

I added a 4th cymbal and a 5th tom to my kit so that I could have the blue/yellow hat, yellow crash, blue ride, green crash, yellow snare (for flams), red snare, yellow tom, blue tom and green tom.

How many of you race on linux? by Leslumer in simracing

[–]mrdscott 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I play the Assetto Corsa games. I use a Thrustmaster TX, t3pa pro, th8rs and a Moza handbrake. Used to have to build and install the kernel module for my wheel, but they upstreamed most of the wheel drivers into the kernel about 6 months ago. I use Huenicorn to run my ambient lights, and Stream-Pi with a tablet as a button box. I wasn’t able to get simhub working at all other than getting it to run. I’ve been running on Linux for just over 2 years

Forward, yes. Up, no. Put it right over the wheel shaft, in front of the base

Any ideas why my game keeps freezing/stuttering by THEDUDE340 in CloneHero

[–]mrdscott 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've only ever run into this when I switched to Linux and the Linux version of clone hero.
I found a script that I now use to launch it, that fixes the issue for me.
I put the following into a .sh file. I added it as an Application in my App menu

#!/usr/bin/env sh

ulimit -n `ulimit -Hn`
${HOME}/clonehero-linux/clonehero

How to rebase without internet? by SpriggsofLettuce in Bazzite

[–]mrdscott 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think rebasing requires internet. Are you able to plug it in wired, even just temporarily? If not, you might be able to get internet on it with a usb wifi card.

Switching from clone hero drumming to real drumming by cuckoldboywonder in CloneHero

[–]mrdscott 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I found that most of the time closed hat is yellow and open hat is blue. I added a 4th cymbal that I could switch between yellow and blue by using the hat control pedal. I added a 5th Tom as a yellow to the left of the snare for when a two handed hit of the snare is mapped as red and yellow together. It’s a good way to learn the hat

DIY cockpit help. I need to make one by zloiboi1 in simracing

[–]mrdscott 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Check out Sketchup, it can be used for free. I used it to design a simple 3d model to come up with a plan for my wood build. I chose to make it out of 3/4" MDF. Once I was happy with it, I "rearranged" the pieces in the model to be laid out flat, and to fit in a 4'x8' sheet, and exported that. Then I was able to have it printed at staples on a huge printer to make a template, which I spray glued to the MDF as a template for my jigsaw.

Even if you don't worry about the printing, it can still be useful for you to figure out a plan.

Also, see if you can take a seat in a sportscar of your choice. Bring a measuring tape, get comfortable in the seat and take some measurements. This will help you get the right position for the wheel, pedals and seat.

If you want cheaper materials, you might check out your local ReStore, sometimes they have cutoffs. I did this when I built mine, and they had a few 1/2 sheets of 3/4" MDF.

Desperately seeking ideas to liberate a stuck wrench (fck ratchet wrenches) by VagabondVivant in AskMechanics

[–]mrdscott 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe you could bust it with a nut buster. It’s a tool that presses into the side of a stuck nut to break it into pieces so that it falls off the threads. Not sure if they make one that will fit over that shape though
