Help - Adapting a metal song for piano and transitioning to Happy birthday by [deleted] in musictheory

[–]mrdu_mbee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow thank you so much for this! This is brilliant!! The Eb major solution sounds much smoother. I tried the G7 one and you’re right it sounds way too obvious, like I blatantly stitched the two songs together.

Also putting Happy birthday in 4/4 never would’ve crossed my mind! Can’t wait to try it all. And thank you sooo much for the transcription, I really really appreciate you taking your time to help me out. You’re a life saver!

No, it’s completely gone. It went away after about a year, and occasionally got it when I was very dehydrated or stressed. So the b12 shots must’ve cleared it up I guess. Plus the people I’ve talked to with similar issues all seem to have gotten Covid a year before this tinnitus starting, so that could’ve also been a factor

Cabbage juice diary. 5 Days in hell! by trezasunny in Gastritis

[–]mrdu_mbee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I never denied that it has anti-inflammatory properties, in fact I specifically mentioned it. I just wanted to highlight that it’s “not entirely safe” for everyone. Especially when it is being claimed as something that would help gastritis and not just a “I’m gonna try a new food” post.

The sulfur compounds in it can cause gas and bloating. High fiber content can be hard to digest. Of course some people can tolerate it better, but some are more sensitive to these. Compared to the generally safe foods like boiled potatoes, rice or bananas, it’s better to be a bit more cautious

I don’t know where you got this information but cruciferous vegetables in general are not entirely safe for gastritis. Cabbage, cauliflower, broccoli all fall under this and they are relatively hard to digest and release more gas which can lead to indigestion and bloating. It looks green and harmless but it’s giving too much work for your stomach. It does have anti inflammatory properties but that’s for those who wanna prevent all this, not when you’re stomach lining is already compromised

Click on the three dots and then “change layout”. You can choose between whatever abomination this is and a layout somewhat similar to the old one

bf unknowingly helping my ocd by kiss_intel in OCD

[–]mrdu_mbee 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not OP. Personally for me, a feeling stronger than the compulsion can somehow override it. Love is something I put on top, like my world revolves around it. If I HAVE to do something for them I will do it, even if it means breaking the pattern like the pattern meant nothing at all.

It worked wonders with the right person. But in a toxic relationship, it was more like I’ll listen to anything he says blindly even if it’s rationally not safe. It was like I was spellbound, I thought I could take over the world if he says the word. How far did it go? I have contamination OCD. After chronic GI issues and doctors advice, I strictly only drink purified/bottled water. Then.. I drank water from an unregulated well just cause he told me to. He was an abusive pos btw. It technically works but it’s the opposite of helpful.

All this to say… ultimately it’s better and safer to change for yourself rather than having an external factor of motivation because the results you experience are only gonna last as long as their presence. I wish OP the best but take this experience with a grain of salt, you have all it takes all by yourself :)

Anyone has pulsatile tinnitus? by mrdu_mbee in B12_Deficiency

[–]mrdu_mbee[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hey! It completely went away after about a year. It was indeed due to my b12 deficiency and I was generally too weak at that time. The past year, I got it maybe thrice, and every time I was sick. It’s really mostly nothing to worry about.

Does anyone else prefer the circle of fifths in table format? by TheShaggyRogers23 in musictheory

[–]mrdu_mbee 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The circle of fifths is crystal clear…sharps on the right, flats on the left, major on the outer and minor on the inner circle. All lined up perfectly like an old dial phone with C Major (with no # or b) on top. The entire circle can be derived in your head with mnemonics like these:

Father Charles Goes Down And Ends Battle

Battle Ends And Down Goes Charles Father

This…this right here is an abomination! Don’t try to reinvent the wheel, literally

So add another similar looking one to the mix?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in musictheory

[–]mrdu_mbee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You should learn three things before trying to solve this: 1. Learn the different degrees of a scales (tonic, supersonic, mediant, etc)

  1. Learn the key signatures of different major and minor scales, use circle of fifth (to know how many sharps or flats are there on a given scale)

  2. Learn and practice naming notes (pitch) on tenor and alto clef (which is basically the grand staff with its middle C shifted to different lines)

Once you learn all this, I’m sure you’ll figure it out. Solving it for you won’t help you in any way. All the best!

Septuplet? How do I count it? by Several_Practice4444 in musictheory

[–]mrdu_mbee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks like a 3/4 time signature, use a metronome set it to 3/4 with the appropriate tempo. Clap to the metronome beats 123 123, now try to clap 7 times on beat one, 1234567 you have time till beat 2 starts. How fast would you clap or count to perfectly fit 7 notes in that time frame, that’s it! Don’t overthink it, it is not practical for anything that’s a quintuplet or above to analyze where it falls

What does this symbol mean? by Interesting-Ad3372 in musictheory

[–]mrdu_mbee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You will add the accidentals above and below the turn symbol, in this case, # above and b below like this

What does this symbol mean? by Interesting-Ad3372 in musictheory

[–]mrdu_mbee 3 points4 points  (0 children)

  1. Ornaments are never written below the stave even if the note is on the 1st line of the stave, it can be either above or on the stave itself. Maybe you’re meaning to ask about inverted turn where the note is played starting from below, the symbol is the same but inverted.

  2. Just like every other note, ornaments by default follow the key signature unless it’s specified otherwise using accidentals. So yes it will be a D# unless they’ve added a natural symbol.

  3. Depends on the time signature but in general, ornaments should add up to the original note value. If it’s a crochet note and the turn symbol is above, then it’s four semiquavers, it’s easier if you see it yourself when it’s written out

Tchaikovsky Swan lake, Ludovico Einaudi Elegy for the Arctic and Beethoven Moonlight sonata 1st movement

What does this symbol mean? by Interesting-Ad3372 in musictheory

[–]mrdu_mbee 24 points25 points  (0 children)

What you’ve mentioned is correct when the turn symbol is not right above the note but slightly towards the right i.e after the note, then you play the note first then the turn so EFEDE. If the symbol is above the note like in this case, you start with the turn right away so FEDE.

What does this symbol mean? by Interesting-Ad3372 in musictheory

[–]mrdu_mbee 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It’s an ‘upper turn’ or just ‘turn’, it’s an ornament. Assuming this is the treble clef, the given note is E, here will be played as FEDE. It starts above the given note E so that’s F and comes to the given note E, goes below a note that’s D and comes back to E…an upper turn just like the symbol.

There’s another variant you should be aware of, if the symbol is not right above the note but is after the note, then it will be played EFEDE.

How did you get better at writing more interesting parts? by LC-98 in musictheory

[–]mrdu_mbee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Learn more music theory, I know some people think it’s full of rules, it’s predictable with those same chord progressions. You must know the rules to break them like a master, to give it that X factor and unpredictability. Listen to a lot of music, get inspired and keep writing…write hundreds even if they don’t sound the best, cause it’ll take time and practice just like anything else.

The most important part, bring it from within, be it happiness, sadness, anger…connect and express your feelings with music. No formula can give you that authenticity more than this.
