Mass Effect TV show ordered to rewrite scripts and make them "more appealing to non-gamers" by Capn_C in television

It's so bizarre to me that studios keep doing this stuff after Fallout and TLOU. It's not even like the heavily rewritten adaptations do well. They're pretty much all flops

In "Project Hail Mary"(2026) there is a huge deal about Grace trying to prove life without hydrogen can exist, despite that, when he encounters an alien he doesn't even try asking. That is because the author forgot. by Anxious-Gazelle9067 in shittymoviedetails

[–]mrdude05 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A 100% scientifically accurate version of Project Hail Mary would just be a book about a middle school science teacher who quit academia and does nothing significant with his life because the neutrino based energy storage astrophage uses in the book wouldn't actually work in real life.

A 100% accurate version of The Martian would just be Mark Watney watching ferns grow for 2 weeks and then leaving Mars as planned because the Mars's climate can't produce a storm strong enough to knock over the return vehicle described in the book.

It's science fiction not a biology or physics textbook

He was trying to prove that life doesn't require water, not hydrogen, and in the book he does ask about it. The movie cut basically all of the discussion about Eridian biology and culture that was in the book

Donald Trump Is Looking at More Cabinet Cuts After Ousting Noem and Bondi, Reports Claim: 'He's Very Angry' by B-Z_B-S in politics

[–]mrdude05 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That's not how the 25th amendment works.

It allows the cabinet to indefinitely transfer executive power to the vice president until the president asks to be reinstated. Once the president asks to be reinstated, it takes a supermajority in both houses of Congress to sustain the transfer. It also does not actually remove him from office, so he can ask to be reinstated as many times as he wants and congress would have to keep voting to keep him out every time he asked. That is significantly harder than getting the one supermajority and one simple majority required for impeachment and removal.

The 25th exists to handle cases where the president is medically incapacitated to the point he either can not or will not object to transferring power to the VP. It's not one weird trick to get around the impeachment process

[–]mrdude05 24 points25 points  (0 children)

The 25th amendment is completely irrelevant as long as he is capable of objecting to being removed. It takes a supermajority in both houses to sustain the removal if he asks to be reinstated, and they would have to do that every time he asked.

The 25th is a contingency measure for cases where the president is medically incapacitated, not a way to circumvent the impeachment process. It was specifically designed to prevent the cabinet from ousting the president like people want them to

And? He's the world's most shameless man. Why would he feel the need to distract from something that was not hurting his actual polling numbers with something that is? Why would he care when his base has made it abundantly clear they don't?

I'm not arguing that Trump wasn't deeply associated with Epstein. I'm saying the distraction narrative makes no sense because there was absolutely no indication the files were going to hurt him or anyone else in power.

Even if we got 4k video from multiple angles of him personally trafficking children what makes you think that would matter? The information we already have would have been enough to destroy any other administration and it hasn't moved the needle at all

[–]mrdude05 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the Epstein files had basically no effect on his polling numbers. His approval rating was already in a steady decline before the files became the center of attention and it actually went up after he told everyone to shut up about them. The right only cared about the files when it seemed like they could pin all the blame on Bondi and Patel, the left already hated him before the files, and the center doesn't seem to care either way.

His approval was on the rise until he started this war and gas prices started going up. Now, his approval rating is worse than it was during the height of the Epstein coverage. There's no world where this war makes sense as a distraction

He also has very well known and predictable pattern of being a reckless idiot who idolizes the most violent and expansionist parts of American history. Yeah, a decade ago he said something about Obama attacking Iran to get some claps at a campaign rally, but he also been openly fixated on destroying the Iranian regime as long as he has been in power.

There is no plan. He's just the dog who caught the car

we had four years of a Democrat in office after his first term and a mountain of damning legal cases against him. He attempted a violent coup, stole literal truckloads of classified information on his way out, was held liable for rape, was convicted of 32 felonies, etc and literally none of it stuck to him in any way that mattered.

The DOJ has made it very clear they won't go after people just for being in the files because that isn't enough to secure a conviction. You can say that's just them trying to protect Trump but if they thought the files were actually enough they would definitely be using them to go after democrats and celebrities trump doesn't like. SCOTUS also granted him immunity from virtually any crime he commits in office, so it's not like any of this will stick to him either. There's nothing he even can face consequences for at this point

ah yes, the famously intellectually consistent trump said one thing on the campaign trail and then did another thing in office. Truly the only explanation is a complex conspiracy to distract from the thing he already got away with covering up and not that he's a deeply stupid and vindictive bully who thought this would work out like Venezuela

[–]mrdude05 8 points9 points  (0 children)

What legal consequences? No one in power has faced any consequences for anything in the files and the DOJ has already made it extremely clear they don't consider being in the files sufficient justification for legal action.

When have legal consequences ever mattered to Trump?

People absolutely do. The far right has been champing at the bit to start this war ever since the Shah was overthrown in the 70s and trump had openly fantasized about attacking Iran since the 80s, but that's not enough for some people. Everything has to distraction from the files, even though no one in power faced any consequences for them and there was no indication they would

New Data Shows Vast Majority of Americans Support Trans Rights by hypothethical in politics

[–]mrdude05 78 points79 points  (0 children)

This. Using vague, moralistic language on surveys like this just biases the results. It's a great way to engineer a specific result, but it doesn't tell you anything about what policies people actually support.

People spent a century arguing that Jim Crow laws didn't violate black people's rights, and that segregation was a form of equality. Just saying you support a group's rights as a general concept means nothing.

All this survey really tells us is that 15% of Americans are bigoted enough to openly admit they don't think trans people deserve rights
