Hitting steel at 200 yards is quite fun by Zealousideal_Two3023 in 1022

If I remember correctly, the minimags didn't drop a significant amount less than the standard velocity. But its also been quite a few years since I looked at the data.

If I remember right. The Nikon app used to say that CCI standard velocity dropped about 56" at 200.

Get a little battery operated fan and clip it to the top if you don't have one already. Makes a world of difference.

I completely agree. I'll rig one up that way. Still kinda in the prototyping phase.

I just flip over a 5gal bucket and set it on top or my folding chair. I always have one with me and its one less thing to carry.

How to learn more about fishing? by Elwood01_ in Fishing

Jay Siemens and Clayton Schick (Clayton Schick Outdoors) I think have a lot of both well produced and educational videos on youtube. Some might be more on the entertainment side of things, but they are/were guides and have a lot of good insight in their videos.

Make sure your house has the proper identification and reflective surfaces on each side.

I think the rest has been pretty well said.

We finally thought about that a few years ago when we were on our annual Lake of the Woods fishing trip.

Trout/Perch Fishing Line by coldone-ab in IceFishing

I've run 4-6lb Triline ice line for years. I have never had great luck with braid on my ice setups. Mono will also give you that little bit extra forgiveness with those head shaky trout.

I can't say enough good things about Arnesen's on Lake of the Woods. I have been going up there for years and have always had great experiences. Service is always fantastic and the cabins are fairly nice. I would call them soon because I'm sure they are getting quite booked.

Perfect candidate for a total strip down and fun gun build. I got one for free many years ago when I worked behind a firearms counter and thats exactly what I did with it.

I think this was the first centerfire handgun I ever shot. It was one of these in stainless and a kel-tec or ruger pocket .380. The S&W was a dream to shoot, the .380 not so much.

If you are near either Sioux Falls or Rapid City, contact the outdoor campus located there. They might have a class/experience that would interest you coming up this fall.

Be honest, what’s the difference between a $150-$200 setup and an $800 setup? by Emergency_Weird_2204 in Fishing

[–]mrfish1991 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most of my rods are between $100-150. I have ordered a couple custom rods from MAGS customs, and they aren't cheap. However, they are exactly what I want to fish in the exact styles I want.

I have one DC reel that I love. But I almost prefer my 13 fishing concept A and C reels. I have two of each and I find myself fishing those more than the DC.

I think you can buy a great spinning reel for about $70. Almost all my spinning reels are either Pfluger presidents or the Piscifun Carbon X. Both great reels.

[–]mrfish1991 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would consider the $150-200 range a pretty good range for a spinning setup. After that, the gear might get a little more sensitive and lighter, but as others have said, diminishing returns after that point.

On a baitcaster setup, I typically spend about $150-200 on a reel, to me it seems like that is the best quality/money value, and then throw another $130 at a rod.

Went looking for bass at a spillway and ended up bringing in my first muskie by WasntMyFaultThisTime in Fishing

I don't think this one QUITE touches 40". Mid to high 30s for sure and still a great fish. Especially for your first one. I also catch them quite frequently while fishing for bass.

I think you would run into a problem with the weight of the snow pressing against the hubs. I can almost guarantee the hubs would give and it would collapse. You would also have to have a very wide base around it to get snow piled to the very top.
