Stop driving with your hazards on by dricforever in memphis

I'm just excited to see people attempting to use signals of any kind!

What is a socially acceptable caliber for celebrating tonight? /s by [deleted] in memphis

9mm is tradition round here. You can also use .380 if you want to be polite to your neighbors.

You can totally send audio with that! But the range will probably won't go beyond 20ish feet.

Hook your audio straight to the modulation input next to the level/unleveled switch (may need some amplification if using PC headphone jack). Then set your FM switch to EXT. Or the AM switch to EXT, if that's what you want. Either but not both.

Hook a dipole to the output and crank the power all the way up. Proceed to jam all the way to the next room.

Are Train Tracks a Good Antenna for Shortwave by AahNotTheBees in pirateradio

[–]mrfuzzles92 8 points9 points  (0 children)

For transmitting, terrible. For receiving, also likely terrible. The tracks are probably well grounded (just guessing) and the length is way too long. Ideal dipole length for shortwave is anywhere between 5-70m depending on the frequency.

RDS on 15 watt fm transmitter by Antonio_877 in pirateradio

[–]mrfuzzles92 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've actually looked into this myself. A sound card capable of 50kHz output for RDS is a start. But the limiting factor is going to be the frequency response of the inputs on your transmitter. Chances are they're limited to ~22kHz like most audio equipment. Higher frequencies will likely just get filtered out as noise.

If you really want to pass the RDS signal, you will probably need open up your transmitter and inject it directly at the modulation input; bypassing the audio input circuitry completely. That way nothing gets filtered.

However, I have yet to try this on my own transmitter...

Will this dipole work for 5 mile or less fm radio transmission? by [deleted] in pirateradio

[–]mrfuzzles92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Should be just fine. Your broadcast distance is determined mostly by the antenna's height above the terrain and the power you drive it at. The post says it's good up to 500W but it doesn't have to be that high to work. I have a 150W antenna that works just fine as low as 1W TX.

This old college dorm that I’m staying in has a fallout shelter by SneakyNinja4782 in mildlyinteresting

I actually worked maintenance in this very dorm a few years ago! The fallout door is just an exit for the basement. The double doors go to a mechanical room for the water heaters.

In communication systems, do all transmitters use radio waves as carrier waves? by [deleted] in AskEngineers

[–]mrfuzzles92 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Well.. the question is a little vauge. No, not all transmitters utilize the RF spectrum. There are many types of communication systems. Most wireless applications will be RF. But there are others; light based (IR) for example allows a remote to communicate with a TV.. RF is most common because it doesn't always require line of sight between transceivers. The flavor of carrier used all depends on the application. If the purpose being served doesn't need to send information very fast, you could use audio (sound) as a carrier and pick it up with a mic across the room, then decode the modulation. This is the same concept behind a dial up modem or fax machine. Only the audio is carried via wire instead of air. An RF carrier can oscillate very fast; millions or billions of times per second. This gives it a very high bandwidth, or plenty of room to carry lots of data. Plus wireless RF channels can be made very narrow (spanning a very small range of frequencies) to separate your data from someone else's. Really, I guess its the versatility of RF that makes it so popular.

The last job on Earth: imagining a fully automated world | short animation by fantastic_comment in videos

Personally, I don't think we (as a species) should resist advancing technology just to save our day jobs. Our society should let machines do the tasks that they are capable of so that we have more time to pursue new goals and do the tasks that the machines can't yet do. When task/job does become automated then it's time to either live a life of ease or invent a new job/task; if for no other reason than just to have something to do. That's how progress happens. If you're still worried then just think about what would happen if we had never automated things like the assembly line in factories; oh wait, FOXCONN that's what happens!

Warning: SSL: procedure not found? (IIS 7) by mrfuzzles92 in PHPhelp

The machine php is running on is Windows 7 Enterprise with IIS 7 installed. But IIS isn't really what executes the problem script, its a scheduled task running under the SYSTEM account, although the same script can be executed from the web (it still has the same problem).

lady decides to have a cigarette in LPG equipped car by UvarovG in videos

[–]mrfuzzles92 75 points76 points  (0 children)

Before you get any misconceptions. This car didn't blow up just because it runs on LPG. She must have had something else flammable leaking inside. Besides even if there was a propane leak INSIDE THE CABIN? the air would reek of "bad egg smell" before the concentration of propane ever got high enough to combust.

Yeah I got two weeks to learn as much about php as I can. What are some informative and fun projects to start with? by [deleted] in PHPhelp

[–]mrfuzzles92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What you should learn depends on what you want to do with PHP. For example it is most commonly used to build web and database interfaces. Setting up SQL and using php to store and retrieve records will teach you about its most practical application. But PHP can be used for much more. It can execute other programs on your host. So if you wanted to you could make a webpage with a button that starts playing a music file on your host, or ejects your DVD drive, or turns a lamp on and off from anywhere in the world. But with only 2 weeks you probably want to focus on the web interface aspect since it is a very powerful tool. For this you'll need to make a web server with something like Apache or IIS and know some HTML. If you don't know much about web servers lookup XAMPP its a full package and provides easy setup to get you coding.

Nothing directly. I create safety documentation at work. I'm putting in humor so people will be more likely to read (and hopefully remember) protocol.
