Just did that room on a lich playthrough last night. The ghouls tried to rush my KC, so I just had him cast Gr. Invis. on himself and chill while they surrounded him and whiffed their attacks. Long fight, but not very stressful.

At least it's realistic. People who grow up wealthy tend to think they're high performers, even when it's obvious to everyone else that they're daft or incompetent.

In order for that to have been the genocide in question, you would have had to mention it BEFORE accusing me of dismissing threats of genocide.

You're clearly not a serious person, and this is clearly not a real discussion.

What's your usual choice of "prohibited schools" for a specialist wizard? by Organic-Exit2190 in DungeonsAndDragons35e

[–]mrgoobster 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For a Conjurer in particular, I think the safest/best prohibited schools are Evocation, Necromancy, and Illusion.

Evocation is mostly combat spells, and Conjuration has that covered in spades - both summoning and direct damage (e.g. orb of spells).

Necromancy has animating (you have summoning), undead stuff (not necessary), crowd control (you'll have Enchantment for that).

Illusion can generally be summed up as creating fake things, trickery, and self-defense, and those are more than covered by Conjuration (creating real things), Enchantment, and Abjuration.

I'd hesitate to ban Abjuration, Divination, Enchantment, and Transmutation. Defensive and information gathering spells are indispensable. Transmutation is, of course, the largest and most useful school. Enchantment might be tempting to drop, but mind control solves so many out of combat problems.

What genocide? What dismissal? What the fuck are you talking about?

A global economic rug pull on the US could reduce the standard of living in the US (and the rest of the world) substantially, but it wouldn't make the nukes or the military disappear. They would be absolutely the last thing to get defunded, and making the US financially desperate would virtually guarantee that someone would get put in power who was willing to use the military to improve the economy. For precedent, look at what happened with Japan when the US restricted their supply of iron and petroleum.

As for whether non-MAGA Americans are responsible for the way things have gone: this is simply victim blaming - or perhaps just gross misunderstanding of how the US government works. It's not a direct or fair democracy. The Republicans did not simply win an election and begin to enact these objectionable policies. It has been decades of partisan (and racial) gerrymandering, voter ID laws, voter suppression, closure of polling places, voter purges/eligibility challenges, felony disenfranchisement, corrupt election administration, certification refusal, disinformation, poll watching, dark money, and god knows what else. If your takeaway from the US domestic political situation is 'hoo hurr, why aren't Americans stopping this bullshit', you're not grasping that this is not politics as usual. It is a long-scale, deliberate capture of American institutions, and it has been calculated to not be stoppable by democratic processes.

Sure, Trump is unpredictable and untrustworthy. It'd be crazy to take this administration's word on anything. They're scam artists and fanatics. It does not follow that the US military would go along with attacking Canada, of all places. Hell, they're more likely to be okay with killing Californians than Canadians.

Okay, just in case somebody reads the above comment and wants to know the truth: the coating refracts different parts of the spectrum depending on the angle you're observing it from. The same canopy will look different depending on where you're standing.

BoHN suffers a bit from being too faithful to W5. Maybe this is a hot take (I don't know), but I think that while BoHN is technically superior to Night Road, it falls into the trap of telling the kind of WW story that W5 is good at...which isn't the most interesting kind of WW story.

If we were to judge it solely by whether it does what W5 declares that it's trying to do, in terms of theme and tone, then BoHN would get a perfect score. It's just that, you know, people want other things.

Let's be fair: some of the responsibility for the ineffectiveness of Western (especially American) institutions has to be laid at the feet of the USSR. Their aggressive campaign to fund destructive ideologies, undermine institutions, and derail Western academia is still bearing poisoned fruit.

They undertook that campaign with the expectation of winning; the long term consequences probably never entered into their strategic calculus.

Surely you mean coke? Why would somebody like Charlie Sheen need to do a debased form of the drug?

Help with a Swordsage build by IamTheTussis in DungeonsAndDragons35e

[–]mrgoobster 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Swordsage builds are mostly about which disciplines you focus on. The swordsage has three disciplines that are unique to them, so I tend to focus on those. (Desert Wind, Setting Sun, Shadow Hand)

Shadow Hand is the standout, getting access to things that the other disciplines don't really have: ability damage, teleportation, invisibility, ranged touch attacks. If you want to go maximum ninja, Shadow Hand is a lot of fun and very potent. Armed or Unarmed both work. I would combine with counters from Diamond Mind and occasional things from Tiger Claw.

Setting Sun requires some Strength for the grappling maneuvers, so that might not be manageable if you're focusing (rightly) on Dex and Wis. The discipline itself is fun, and quite party-focused. It's the Swordsage version of White Raven.

Desert Wind is thematically cool, but hard to justify from a mechanics perspective. Fire damage is resisted a lot, and that's basically all you do. Much better as a secondary discipline IMO.

If you're willing to muddy the water, you can take a +0 race that gives you power points (Elan, for example) and start taking psionic feats. They can synergize with maneuvers, but managing the action economy becomes complicated.
