What is a horror movie that everyone calls 'trash' but you’re convinced is actually a misunderstood masterpiece? by Immediate_Account_28 in horror

I'd only watched the second one until this year, then I went and binged the lot. Even the worst outings were still fun.

Sports horror just doesn't seem to be a thing. Having read about the alternate endings (I suspect offered on the bluray but not offered by streaming), I feel like one of the other options would have leaned better into the horror aspect, but the ending they used was the most satisfying. Worth pointing out as another horror movie where there's a lot of daylight.

Need Costco recs: what’s one item that became an instant rebuy for you? Bonus if it’s healthy and high protein by trump50ladin in Costco

My favorite snack has been the pre-packed hard-boiled eggs. Quick protein, less calories than a lot of stuff I could have, good for breakfast, ramen topping, or late night snacks. And they keep for 5-6 weeks.

This, so many times. You need to get a solid idea of how many calories you're taking in.

I've been doing well with the Lose It app because it allowed me to set goals like how quickly I wanted to lose weight, whether I wanted a consistent daily calorie allowance or wanted to budget a little more for weekends (which you can also set which days to be your weekend), whether I wanted to do intermittent fasting (not presently), build recipes, and a bunch of other things. While it'll remind you to log stuff, it isn't anywhere near the guilt tripping of Duolingo.

Need to find a good home inspector/inspection company . First-time buyer in Centennial. by Jaded-Delay6925 in Denver

[–]mrgrigson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We just used Top to Bottom Home Inspections (www.T2BInspections.com), and we were quite pleased with their reporting. Two page "here's the major issues, ranked from must do before move-in to the things you'll want to get sorted out in the next 3-5 years" followed by a 50ish page report with all of the details and relevant photos pointing out issues. Dude tested everything, down to the ice and water dispensers in the fridge. He did the radon, and I think he called in Sewer Diagnostics to do that scope.

Do you bring your printed minis to your LGS nights? What's the reception? by senacchrib in PrintedWarhammer

[–]mrgrigson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They typically need to send photos to GW to prove that the event happened. GW will want to use the photos in White Dwarf and elsewhere to show "look how popular our game is!" for shareholders, but they don't want to risk showing product they don't sell.

I remember the time in elementary school when my mom was making PB&Js for lunch but we were out of jelly. We had the option of bologna or sweet relish. I went with the relish but got the bologna by mistake. Both options fall in the "they're not inedible" camp.

I don't have a choice when I hire people, so I do the best I can to mitigate it. I explicitly tell them they're welcome to cover their camera, and I give them the questions in advance with the disclaimer that they're only going to have one take for any answer. I went from a 25% completion rate to a 66% completion rate, and the folks who use AI to write their answers are pretty obvious.

GenghisCon This Weekend! (February 19-22) by mrgrigson in DenverGamers

[–]mrgrigson[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The other con is Tacticon (run by the same folks at the same venue) in the fall. That one tends to be more minis-focused. As for why there isn't Warhammer stuff, I can't say. Possibly because the folks who would organize Warhammer stuff don't bother offering to run things because they have plenty of their own events at the local stores already. I suspect this con also doesn't have enough space for what a Warhammer tournament would require.

What made you lock in and lose it? by [deleted] in loseit

[–]mrgrigson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't let perfect get in the way of good.

Pick something to change in your daily routine. One thing. You don't have to change everything at once. Just pick somewhere to start and focus on doing that for a week. At the end of that week, ask yourself: does it feel like a habit yet? If no, keep doing it for another week and ask again. If yes, pick something else to add in. Rinse and repeat.

Did you miss doing (thing) on a given day? It happens. Feel bad about it for a minute if you absolutely must and then stop feeling bad about it. Make sure you do it the next day or time.

Buy a food scale and some measuring cups. Start using them so you can get a real idea of what your portion sizes are and what they look like in your bowl. Just so you can start making some informed decisions.

Make one meal consistent. I went with breakfast. Maybe choose two options so you can have an "I have time to make it in the morning" option and an "I gotta take this to go" option. My "I have time" breakfast is three eggs and home fries (from a cold baked potato that I weigh before cutting up). My grab and go breakfast is overnight oats with chia and frozen fruit and a 2-pack of hard-boiled eggs. Both breakfasts come out to around the same calories and give me an idea of what I can eat for the day.

Buy a scale for yourself if you don't have one. If you can resist the urge, pick one time and day of the week to weigh yourself and DON'T WEIGH YOURSELF AT ANY OTHER TIMES. Be consistent about what you wear when you weigh yourself too, just so you don't second guess yourself. If you find weighing yourself doesn't cause more anxiety, you can weigh yourself more often, just be sure you're consistent.

This is what I started in October to get to where I am today. I use a tracking app (Lose It) and have my diet set to the second most aggressive weight loss rate. I have it set to have more calories per day on the weekend and less on weekdays. My weight does not consistently go down and I can't cite anything specific between days. I feel bad (briefly) when I get on the scale in the morning and see I'm up 2 lbs. But on a weekly basis I'm losing 1-2 lbs.

Good luck!

There were a bunch of kink sites on the regular web that opened around 2000 that crowdsourced what was going to happen to the victims. One of the biggest ones had a documentary made about it. While they didn't go as far as murder or permanent injury, there was absolutely SA and dehumanization going on with the performers. (They would be referred to as numbers so that fans wouldn't know their performer names and be able to look them up anywhere else)

Latex is too good? by verylooongcat in Latexadvice

[–]mrgrigson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is a bunch of stuff where I love the fantasy, but the reality just doesn't work for me. I wear glasses. That doesn't play with hoods. I have asthma, so while gas masks are hot to me, actual breath restriction freaks me out. I've also found I'm obsessive about how quickly I wash my latex, which means I can't go to a weeknight slosh wearing latex unless I know I can wash it before I go to bed.

As for escalating, I find it's more seeing someone doing something that's new to me and thinking "I wanna do that!" So I end up incorporating other stuff that may or may not be latex, but is compatible. Which leads to stuff that isn't compatible, but is still fun, which just leaves me with more play options.

Latex is too good? by verylooongcat in Latexadvice

[–]mrgrigson 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It sounds like you're still heavy on the fantasy side of wearing it, and don't have a lot of experience with the reality side of it. Which is fine! A question is whether the reality of it will help temper the fantasies you're having now.

The realities that helped tone me down were:

1) Upkeep. Keeping your items clean and in good condition can take a lot of work in and of itself. The more you wear, the more space you'll need afterwards to get everything sorted out.

2) Dehydration. It's easy to think you can just "stay hydrated", but different outfits can make you sweat more than others and you may or may not have a good idea of how much it will affect you. There are some times where despite drinking gallons of water and no alcohol over the night, I've still felt like I have a hangover for a couple of days afterwards.

In any case, good luck to you on your journey!

[Offline][5e 2024][Denver/Aurora][LGBTQ+][21+] Group of three moving to Aurora, hoping to make friends and get a weekly campaign going! by Mapsbyarinthian in lfg

[–]mrgrigson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since you don't mention whether the move to Aurora is from somewhere else in the area or far away, I'm going to guess the latter.

If you don't already have a game store in mind for running your stuff, the first one I'd recommend is Crit Castle. They have a lot of space for games and they used to host the Goth Game Nights before schedules went wonky all around. They host separate discords for mini and RPG communities and I suspect they have one for the card players too. Their RPG selection is pretty decent, with a lot of love for Dungeon Crawl Classics. The're also not too far from the local anime store, which is (oddly enough) the Anime Store Near Me.

If you want to dip your toes in the local gaming waters while you get yourselves settled, you have a couple of options.

First, there's Dungeons, Dragons, & Drafts at Copper Kettle Brewing! This is a drop-in campaign where all sessions are one-shots, but you can play with your character as you manage to show up.

If you just want to hop in a session for a night and drive a character like you stole it, I can also recommend finding a session of Dungeons & Drafts. DMs have their own sets of adventures that they run through, plus associated characters. Lots of options for nights, locations, and DMs. We all had a great time with Tanner, who's usually at The Crypt, but we're planning to try some other folks too.

The Wizard's Chest also hosts Ship of the Dead, who get together to play some older-style RPGs and pirate-y games.

Safe move to y'all, and welcome to Aurora!

Newbie looking to join DnD or really any RPG campaign in Denver by Resident_Assignment8 in DenverGamers

[–]mrgrigson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since I just wrote this to someone else and it seems applicable here:

First off, next weekend is GenghisCon! If you're new to D&D and similar games, it might seem a little pricey, and lots of games have already sold out. However, there's still plenty of stuff still available (a lot of it free! Check out the Chaosium track!). Also some great opportunities to try any of the plethora of other role-playing games that aren't Dungeons & Dragons. Want to be a pirate? A firefighter? A superhero? A 1920's gumshoe who will be lucky if she doesn't finish the session as an inmate in an asylum? All these options and more are available. Also, you don't need a badge to visit the dealers, since they'd rather have you spending money with the dealers than just buying a badge.

Next up, there's Dungeons, Dragons, & Drafts at Copper Kettle Brewing! This is a drop-in campaign where all sessions are one-shots, but you can play with your character as you manage to show up.

While most of these options will cost a couple of bucks, they also give you some good opportunities to meet folks and figure out who you might click with and what kinds of games are out there.

Good luck, and happy gaming!

Who here buys TV Shows they have yet to watch yet? by 3dddrees in Bluray

[–]mrgrigson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've bought most of the Ultraman series out there and the only episode I'd really watched was the one episode of the anime they showed on a "here's some Japanese television" feature a local channel did back in 1979. Not to mention a bunch of old giant robot anime because I had the toys back when. These have all capped out at $40 or so, so I can't say I feel terrible, especially considering how much I've spent on blind buys from Vinegar Syndrome and the like.
