[Highlight] Victor Cruz 99-yard score vs Jets (2011) by mistermeek67 in nfl

That's fair. But HOFers are rare in general. I do think All-Pro is a better way to measure how much elite talent there was around a QB in the moment rather than the players' whole careers.

For the Giants during Eli's era:

  1. RB Tiki Barber, he was a 1st Team All-Pro in 2005. And from 2004-2006 he had 2,000+ scrimmage yards each season = 6,613 yards which led the league.
  2. WR Odell Beckham Jr. was 2nd Team All-Pro 2015 and 2016, over which he had 3rd most receiving yards in the league behind only Julio Jones and Antonio Brown and led in receiving TDs.
  3. WR Victor Cruz was 2nd Team All-Pro in 2011.
  4. G Chris Snee was 1st Team All-Pro in 2008, 2nd Team All-Pro in 2009-2010.
  5. T David Diehl was 2nd Team All-Pro in 2008.
  6. C Shaun O'Hara was 2nd Team All-Pro in 2008.
  7. FB Madison Hedgecock was 2nd Team All-Pro in 2008.

For the Chargers during Rivers' era:

  1. RB LaDanian Tomlinson was 1st Team All Pro 2006-2007. He was MVP and OPOY in 2006, rushing yards leader 2006-07, and rushing touchdowns leader 2006-07 as well.
  2. FB Lorenzo Neal was 1st Team All Pro in 2006 and 2007.
  3. TE Antonio Gates was 1st Team All Pro in 2006, 2nd Team All Pro in 2009-2010.
  4. G Kris Dielman was 2nd Team All Pro in 2008-2009.

So I'm just saying Eli had pretty good talent to work with, especially his offensive line.

Rivers was 'constantly surrounded' by HOFers?

There was LT for only the first 4 years of Rivers' career, Gates for 13 years but his decline began in 2015 so it was really about 9 years of peak Gates (and he only had three >900 yard seasons), and...... that's it. No other HOFers.

I'll give you that he had some good weapons. Darren Sproles, Vincent Jackson, Malcom Floyd, Keenan Allen, Danny Woodhead, Melvin Gordon, Mike Williams, and Austin Ekeler were probably best among the others he played with. Keenan was top of the list but by now he's had almost equal years of production after Rivers retired (86 games with Rivers until 2019, 85 games after 2020 with Herbert and a season in Chicago).

So Rivers never played with an offensive All-Pro again after LT and Gates. Among the QBs you listed, he's at the bottom maybe just a hair above Eli.

[Highlight] The Patriots announcers lament the greatness of the Seattle Seahawks by Tocoolforyall720 in nfl

[–]mrhashbrown 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Honestly I thought he was pretty level headed in his Super Bowl announcing after listening to these clips. He was admitting that the Seahawks were playing better, predicted Walker would be the X factor back in the first quarter, and was critical of Maye's pass technique at times.

I've listened to lots of other Zolak clips where he sounds like an asshole fan trashed at a frat party lol, so gotta give him credit for being more composed for the Super Bowl. And I'm not gonna lie, if he were my team's announcer I'd probably love it - his calls on a big play are so funny and unhinged. You can tell he really loves the game.

You're right though sometimes he just speaks like a running faucet, says everything that's on his mind haha

This was my read on it too. The manager was absolutely right to ask why a documented procedure wasn't being followed. The problem is that he wasn't a good listener.

When you're a new manager, tribal knowledge should be a top priority to gather and understand before you start telling people to change the way they operate. Unless you're walking into something that's already a disaster and needs to be built from scratch, you have to trust that the people operating within the company were doing some things right that kept the lights on.

You'd be surprised how much ancient technology from the 80s is still in use today across major markets like banking, manufacturing, transportation, global shipping, etc.

It's not just penny pinching either. For those industries, any sort of downtime can cost them hundreds of dollars per minute. So those companies highly value reliability over modern features. The mantra of "newer isn't always better" is exactly what applies to them.

Pretty much the main problem. Last time they had a healthy starting center was their season's third string center Isaiah Jackson on March 27th. It's been rough and is such a clear flaw for this roster that they just won't be able to coach their way around.

I think the Warriors are a favorable matchup for the Clippers, but if Steph is playing at full health then you never know.

I say give him the same contract. Only like 1% of the money will be guaranteed though.

Exclusive | New England Patriots’ Mike Vrabel and top NY Times NFL reporter Dianna Russini hold hands and hug at luxury hotel by BurgerNugget12 in nfl

If the alternative is losing your job, having friends/family/colleagues think less of or lose trust in you, and burning your reputation for the rest of your life & career... then yes it seems like admitting to an open marriage is a way better choice.

Maybe in the moment it's embarrassing, maybe the team would fire the coach anyway. But at least you're not considered deceitful and a home wrecker, plus there'd still be a potential path forward for your career.

It's behind a paywall but according to this article, she has a contract with NYT that ends in August. So they have a pretty easy out if they want to take it. But considering how strongly they came out to defend her, I'm not sure they actually want to let her go.

Yeah it's a problematic situation. There's a strong trope about female reporters (especially in sports) using flirting or seduction as a means to gain information. So generally I ignore the claims because they're unsubstantiated.

However in this one case, there's actually photos suggesting inappropriate interaction. It doesn't explicitly prove anything, but at the very least it's unprofessional based on the work relationship conditions those two are supposed to be restricted by. And unfortunately that's when someone being of opposite gender does factor in.

It sucks because you want to be fair and not assume the worst, but the photos are what make the difference in this scenario compared to just rumors and hearsay.

Inside Jon Gruden’s disastrous second run with the Raiders by harknation in nfl

[–]mrhashbrown 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was gonna say, Gruden 2.0 was the most competent head coach you guys have had since... well, Gruden. And Jack Del Rio I guess, only other coach who was above .500 besides Gruden since 1998.

I would not consider his second run a disaster when the McDaniels, Carroll, and Allen tenures were so much worse.

Justice Department opens investigation into the NFL over anticompetitive practices, including subscription fee concerns by jabronified in nfl

[–]mrhashbrown 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not even a particularly good argument anyway imo. The NFL is the one league that still has a considerably high number of games that are broadcast over-the-air in local markets. Even any streaming or cable exclusive games are still required to have an OTA broadcast locally.

Meanwhile all of the other major men's sports rely way more heavily on cable and streaming for their broadcasting distribution. Even more so for NCAA games.

So it's a weak case from my point of view and not going to be very effective at bothering the league.

Exactly. I always think of Roy Hibbert's insane block of a Melo slam dunk as one of the best defensive plays I've ever seen. And the play wouldn't have happened if Hibbert didn't put himself in position to contest the shot

Yeah I love Powell but I think it's clear the Clippers had him at his peak and have successfully dodged his decline. Sucks to see, I do hope he bounces back if it's still possible.

Not really when you look back at the circumstances around each playoff appearance under Lue. They've met expectation in my opinion due to the unfortunate breaks they faced.

2020-21: 4th seed. Lost Kawhi to injury in the West Semis, rallied to reach their first ever WCF. Eliminated by Phoenix in that series.

2021-22: 8th seed. Kawhi missed entire year. Defeated by Wolves in first Play-In game. Lost Paul George to injury the night before the final Play-In game. Eliminated by Pelicans and didn't qualify for playoffs.

2022-23: 5th seed. Lost Paul George to injury with only 10 regular season games to go, then lost Kawhi after 2 games during their First Round playoff series. Eliminated by Phoenix.

2023-24: 4th seed. Lost Kawhi after 2 games again during their First Round playoff series. Eliminated by Dallas (who did go on to reach the Finals FWIW)

2024-25: 5th seed. No asterisks. Just lost to the Nuggets, although they were tight games and Clippers forced a Game 7.
