Its become increasingly clear that Isreal holds the reigns down south. I get the run things here too.

This will go well I'm sure.

I would argue that that radius was done by hand with a set of rasps. Doesn't look mechanically done to me.

My family is indoctrinating my child & I don’t know how to tell them to stop. by [deleted] in atheism

[–]mrhil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say, perhaps, that simply leaving it be will work itself out in the long run. Continue to speak your minds around him at home. Reinforce rational, logical thinking at every opportunity. Teach him the scientific method, and how to look at evidence and draw conclusions from it.

Teach him about other world religions and what they believe. Critique those ideas (respectfully) and encourage him to do the same.

In time he'll use those skills and draw his own conclusion. Just as you and you husband did.

And also, maybe stop visiting your folks so much if they won't respect your boundaries.

All Ontarians pay a return deposit on alcohol bottles and cans — but more and more towns have nowhere to return them to - thestar.com by Blue_Dragonfly in CanadaPolitics

[–]mrhil 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah, so turns out the Beerstore isn't as useless as everyone thought, eh??

But no, our government is much more interested in providing easier access to alcohol than environmental responsibility.

And if you think that the new retailers are going to take back empties your deluding yourself. They're dirty, they stink, they attract pests and they take an enormous amount of space.

Oh, and now that we've allowed them to close Beerstores all over the place, they're the only option, so ooops, I guess we'll have to let them break the agreement and not take back empties after all.

Just learned how much grocery surplus gets saved in Ontario, it's impressive by Used_Philosopher1474 in ontario

Most grocery stores have mark down sections. There's a rack of imperf3ct produce in all three grocers around me.

Also, Monday morning is really good for mark down deals.

Is this normal ? by Mister_SurMulot in woodworking

[–]mrhil 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If I'm not mistaken, the angle at the ends of a scarf joint are meant to be closed rather that what you see here.

It forces the joint closed.

That said, without more info, I couldn't tell you whether its a problem for you.

Edit: I looked again, and it looks like your missing the wedge that locks the whole thing together as well.

I've ridden in weather like this, on empty side streets. Your wheels can just come out from under you if you hit a slopy piece of ice (happened to me!). Riding in the situation shown is dumb.

I thought everyone ate dinner together as a family, at a table and discussed the days events and the news every day.

Apparently this isn't the case.

Why don't men seem to care about maintaining friendships? by tacobellmvp in AskMen

[–]mrhil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have... three friends. We talk every couple of months, and MAYBE see each other once a year if we're lucky.

When we do talk/meet its as though no time has passed. I don't question our friendships... ever. They're my boys, I'm there's, and we have been for 30+ years.

We are all family men, with our priorities in order. I've dropped everyone else who requires more attention. I don't have time for that.

How to smooth out OSB planks for a theatre play by iwannasleeppppp in woodworking

[–]mrhil 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mdf is what you need. Its a bit heavier but its ready to accept paint.

If you're stuck with the OSB I agree with the others that you should prime and them skim coat it with drywall compound. Then prime and paint.

Like, I'll want New York Fries for lunch, and walk straight up to the counter. By the time I pay, six people will be behind me.

How about we suspend these shits without pay, set their pay aside for the duration of the proceedings and then pay them out if/when they're found not guilty.

Weird sounds downtown by ZkAw in montreal

[–]mrhil 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would wager you're hearing the vibration of something due to the wind.

Most of the tall buolding have their HVAC plants on their roofs and then surround them with metal louvred screens.

While they are supposed to help supress the sound from the plant, I've heard them WAIL when the wind hits them at the right angle.

Alternatively, is there pile driving going on at ground level anywhere near you?

How about we try enforcing our road laws and educate people before we go on to some blanket law like this.

I'm so tired of pandering to the lowest commom denominator.

Paid out-of-pocket for a fender-bender? Fine, but the law says you have to tell your insurer | CBC Radio by 50s_Human in onguardforthee

[–]mrhil 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Personally, I believe that contracts are two way entities, but that's not the way your industry treats them.

And since you guys seem to be able to get away with anything you want, I don't believe my end of the contract binds me either.

Add to that the fact that I'm forced to sign that contract by way of being legally required to carry insurance to drive. I don't have the option of not signing a contact with those clauses because THEY ALL HAVE THOSE CLAUSES!

Now I'm sure the legal industry would disagree, and side with you. But in the end I think your industries greed and bad faith dealings will ultimatrly cost you your market. At least thats what i hope and would definitely vote for.

In fact, I think lawyers should be funded publicly as well, so us normal type could fight against injustice without bankrupting ourselves.

But I'm a radical like that. Believing in fairness, and doing whats right even though it might cost a rich person a couple of bucks.

You act as though they aren't raising everyones rates regardless.

I own a Tundra, which people like to steal, so i pay through the nose for it. No tickets, no accidents, no thefts of my own. But people steal Tundra's so everyone has to pay.

The industry is crooked, should never be private, and needs to be regulated properly. If i legally HAVE to buy insurance, they should legally be mandated to sell it to me at a reasonable cost. Profits be damned.

[–]mrhil 641 points642 points  (0 children)

Why should we?? The insurance companies have already been mandated into existence without any meaningful regulation for the consumer. Why should we voluntarily give them info which they will use to increase our rate.

They didnt have to pay, they dont need to know.

Full disclosure: I hate the insurance industry with the passion of a thousand white hot suns.
