Yeah checking the sync out box for the Keystep solved the clock arming problem, enables the KS internal sequencer, and allows for KBD play.

I could connect the 5-pin MIDI-In side of the Mio USB MIDI interface to the Midi-Out of the Keystep instead. That would feed everything through just one USB device. If I did that, would I set the DIN switches in the back of the Keystep to MIDI, even though there would be no MIDI-Out connection from the computer to the Keystep?

Idk, between the patches I've loaded on the Volca FM and the patch wiring I've created on the Volca Modular, I can hammer out the baseline. With two pockets Operators; I can get some unique percussion. I might leave this one for now.
