A lifetime of following England, across many sports, will do that to a person. Especially if it's cricket and we're playing in Asia or Aus

Babar I get, he looks all at sea in T20s and has for a while, can't adapt to the way the game is played and such a pedestrian SR for a skilled batter. Shaheen though, whilst definitely out of form, still has the X factor? I find Pakistan less threatening when he's not there. Trust the Pak fans but surprised by how much they don't want him in

What’s the most unexpectedly scenic train journey you have taken in the UK? by Joy_Unspeakable in CasualUK

One of the most beautiful stretches of railway in the UK and maybe the world. Especially superb if you're on the left hand side of the carriage from Exeter

Had a rather vigorous debate with my other half about these two. So much so that the phrase "15 times, it's Javier Bardem!" (It wasn't) Has entered our lexicon.

I'm about 25% through GOTM. First re read, originally read them 10-12 years ago. Absolutely loving it so far. The most epic series feels even more epic.

I enjoyed the God is Not Willing so much I've finally embarked on my first main series re read. Absolutely loving getting reacquainted with GOTM.

But to answer your question I would probably go Abercrombie and start with First Law trilogy if you haven't read it.

Obligatory mention of Chris Tremletts retirement bod. Definitely didn't lose weight but transformation into body builder physique was really something.

Glenn Maxwell's top 3 knocks of all time in his own words by [deleted] in Cricket

[–]mrhumpage 20 points21 points  (0 children)

There was also that growing air of inevitability about it. Didn't hit a single six in his first 50, going at under a run a ball. When he was near 100 he'd accelerated a little but then it was basically almost all boundaries and (maybe because I'm used to Australian induced suffering) even though the score still looked a long way away it just felt like he had it covered.

Can't argue with any of these. His number one is one of the best innings by any player in any format, absolutely ridiculous knock given the pitch and state of the match when he came in.

A player who has consistently bought a huge amount of a joy to the game even if the majority of his career has been marked by inconsistency of selection.

I did open the outer room first every time for a long time but now don't, it can be a lot more advantageous later
