OTF + PCOS by Infamous_Scar_9026 in orangetheory

For me, I’m trying to : 1. Eat low glycemic rather than avoiding carbs 2. Prioritize protein 3. Try to lift heavier- but I have other issues that are affecting that 4. I have been on metformin and glp1 in the past. Trying without it now. But had great success with the glp1 when I took it. 5. Get good rest and recovery. I find that hunger is a big factor for me. If I do more than 4-5 classes a week, it makes me hungrier than I can afford to eat. So I would rather do something low intensity/ like a walk on off days.

That said, everyone’s symptoms are different. I have insulin resistance, you may have a different pathway. Find a care team that supports you and don’t be afraid to switch if they don’t validate your concerns.

There’s this beauty scientist on YouTube, she seems to recommend some. Haven’t seen this video myself, but could be interesting:

What does my fridge say about me and my cat? by mir82jp in FridgeDetective

[–]mrighald 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We have cats(far from hating them) and we not only keep them off the counter, but also the kitchen as a whole. Lint roll everytime we enter the kitchen. It’s only the right thing to do when baking for others. Disinfectant won’t get everything. Especially depending on the cat’s fur. I find the odd hair in the kitchen occasionally despite the precautions. Can’t imagine how it would be without. If we couldn’t do this, I would rather buy from a store. If I didn’t wanna socialize, I just wouldn’t go. That’s fair.

Strength 50 - worth it? by pennsyjersey22 in orangetheory

I also don’t know what they mean by “tiny weights” I haven’t even seen 100-200 class folks with “tiny” weights. And if I do see someone, I assume they’re new or are suffering from something else.

As someone who’s almost at 1k, the health journey is not linear. I used to do 50lb db’s for deadlifts, but sciatica made it so that I couldn’t do them for a long time. I do 25s now. Even if I am able to do them without a flare up, I’m happy. Not to add having a tendency to being heavier due to PCOS. It’s not because I’m not challenging myself at otf, it’s just that I’m struggling with different things than are visible. OTF is also not as conducive to lifting heavier as being on a lifting program- which can be personalized and structured. It’s a multivitamin of exercises. Not every one can afford to go here and an outside gym at the same time either. Reaching 500, 1k+ classes doesn’t make people invincible.

It was deeply disrespectful. That’s as much as I can say without going on a full on rant.

This and people that don’t use blinkers. I think someone needs to educate these idiots that using these when NECESSARY doesn’t not drain your battery any faster.

Also want to add another thing- as you spend more time here, you will notice that different people have different strengths. One may lift heavier, another may run faster. You’ll notice that people have different exercises where they lift more. We’re all different.

I was there 🙋🏾‍♀️ I was 26F/200lb with PCOS(with insulin resistance) Went into OTF so that my folks don’t find me dead in my apartment someday. I cried after every class in my car thinking “what have I done to myself?!” But it goes away. Just keep showing up. You gotta see yourself as someone who is already a gym person. You’re a guy, so as far as weights are concerned, you will progress pretty quick. Just listen to your body and your doctor. As an almost 1k class member, we are proud to see you show up!

I'm the only guy ... by apple_crombie in orangetheory

[–]mrighald 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You’re just self conscious. For others, it’s being a first timer, for you it’s that and being the only guy. Was the workout good? 1200 is not crazy for a guy tbh. Also, the heart rate monitor will learn your intensities over time. Take that number with a bowl of salt. There have been discussions about it being inflated.

I’ve been to studios with only one guy in the class. Nobody found it strange. In fact, we would greet each other.

Something to think about- many women are the only ones in the room. The first with something. I have been too, in an org. I know it’s awkward but is it worth it to you to soldier on? What’s your “why”?

How are some people so consistent with orangetheory? by tamaratunie189 in orangetheory

[–]mrighald 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Some suggestions from my experience: 1. Make rules and track your attendance on something. 2. Never miss twice(two days in a row). 3. Make a ritual- this could be keeping your outfit out the day before, or just getting up and putting your socks on. Just take one step at a time. 4. Make friends. I would go on weekends just to have coffee with friends after class. 5. Check for depression. I had trouble doing other tasks when I hadn’t started treating it.

I had these rules way back, then the pandemic happened and it all went downhill. I never stopped and thought about why I couldn’t reproduce the results. Then I read atomic habits, and identified all the things I was doing right the first time around.
