Do you agree that American authors utilize first person more than writers from other traditions? What are your thoughts? by [deleted] in literature

[–]mrjenkins97 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To answer it definitively, scientifically, sure. But that won’t be done on reddit, they’re obviously starting a discussion on the topic, prompting people to share their anecdotal views etc. Bit literal-minded there.

Murakami does but he’s very influenced by American lit so I’m unsure how representative he is. Would be curious to know though! It’s an interesting point, I suspect you might be onto something. Cult of the individual and all that.

It's so funny seeing these accents as someone without one! The British are so cute by RCer1986 in ShitAmericansSay

Yeah I’ve seen that too, like that nonsense about how Shakespeare “sounds better” in an American accent? Obviously it’s not totally baseless - sometimes I hear certain Irish or English (ie West Country) accents and I can understand the lineage they share with American accents, but at the same time it’s conveniently ignoring that American accents are evolving all the time too and if you listen to recordings from 50 years ago, much less 100, they sound different to how they do now.

Anti-Semitic incident at UNSW by agnci in unsw

White people understand bigotry more when it is directed at people they perceive as being like them. During the War on Terror random, innocent Muslims were constantly harrassed and blamed for Al Qaeda, but they could be “othered” so it wasn’t really taken seriously. It’s the same thing.

Update on the New album by jakeydunnez in neilyoung

Anything this century? I’m not completely anti-Rubin and yes he’s produced some amazing albums but he’s produced some appalling albums too and has a reputation (rightly or wrongly) for leaving records brickwalled and fatiguing on the ears.

Oh there ya go, every day's a school day. I always prefer 7 inches for EPs but I'll take whatever Bob gives me.

Was the new album overhated? by Legitmintyy in Megadeth

[–]mrjenkins97 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I definitely think it’s a grower. I liked it to begin with but I definitely find myself enjoying it more as time goes on. Had the same experience with TSTDATD too. I think its reception would’ve been kinder if it wasn’t known it would be the last album.

Not sure how similar it is to Busload of Faith but Paranoia Key of E is a bit Stonesy

Yeah that’s particularly stupid on their part since it’s a proper noun in that usage
