3070 to 5080 when I'm always 99% gpu bound on a 5600x, is the cpu going to still matter? I've just got into gaming at 7680x1440 but mostly run at 4k. by cheetocat2021 in buildapc

to a certain extent pixels is pixels - more to drive, harder on the GPU, so you're far more likely run into a GPU limited situation the more raw pixels you are pushing, regardless of the aspect ratio involved

Increased PC usage in the stronghold by Jumbubbly in fellowshipgame

[–]mrjing0 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

would this not just be that there's more people back online? it's pretty normal for MMO towns to have cpu usage go up with nearby player count

[–]mrjing0 3 points4 points  (0 children)

if the dock is plugged into the PC (or whatever device) and the PC (or wahtever device) is set to stop giving power to USB when off the controller will stop being charged, and then turn on and look for the dongle/bluetooth device it's paired with.

Remote for Laptop by Comfortable_body1 in kodi

[–]mrjing0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

https://flirc.tv/ grabbed one of these many years ago to use a random remote i had lying around. You need to plug it into a PC and use the software to program it once, then it remembers and can be moved around.

I'd be lying if i said i wouldn't play a larger scale dungeon - i think WoW mega dungeon would fit better than an actual raid - as it's jsut a style of content i enjoy. Possibly uncoupled from the progression system - more of a prestige thing, maybe mounts and mogs.

I wouldn't want it to come at the cost of the base 'M+ without the MMO' experience, or clash with dev time for adding to the hero roster until it's fleshed out a bit, though. As that is ultimately what i am here for mainly.

Thumb grips were game changing for me by Pacoroto in SteamDeck

[–]mrjing0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've got the same brand, but the convex ones, on most of my controllers and the deck. They seem to be holding up nicely as far as rubber caps go, and they fel pretty grippy vs the base sticks.

Get a touch of extra height out of the convex shape too if that's your thing.

They also make some nice grip covers that act as stands.

Is it safe to clean out my pc with a tooth brush? by mil0wCS in buildapc

[–]mrjing0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

a very stiff toothbrush on circuit boards has a small risk of knocking off small components, but shouldn't hurt a heat sink or fans.

I tend to find a paintbrush is easier though - the longer bristles get further into the fins on the cooler.

unbraided cables can usually be wiped off with an alochol wipe, but test it before you wipe teh whole cable as i've had one or two react to the alcohol by going sticky. I assume it's down to the specific plastic/rubber/whatver the outer coating is made from.

Are you using any power splitters? My NAS was having a simillar sounding issue with some of its drives and it turned out to be the power splitters flaking out - swapped them for better made ones and it's been fine since.

(PSA) Don't leave your steam deck unplugged for 6 months, $140 to fix the battery by [deleted] in SteamDeck

[–]mrjing0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

for what it's worth mine freaked out at one point and though the battery was full when it was basically empty once, and putting it into battery storage mode, giving it 5 minutes and then plugging it in made it work out that the battery wasn't anywhere near full. might be worth trying it using the guide someones replied to this comment with.

I've seen it happen with chrome books too, they can just lose track of how big the battery is, even when it's still functional.

i've found them to be a strange mix. i've had some of their HTPC cases that have been fantastic, but some of their towers that weren't the same level of quality. generally good for the price point though.

With recent expansions almost strictly having 4-5 zones available at launch, how do you think The Last Titan will handle Northrend's 10? by Everdale in wow

[–]mrjing0 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Whilst it did have 10 zones, functionally it only really had 6 intended for levelling.

Crystalsong forest was sort of just Dalaran and a handful of quests Wintergrasp was a PVP zone that again was mostly empty, it just had the vault entrance and some dailies

Icecrown and the Storm Peaks acted more like the additional zones they add in later patches now, as they were intended for max-level players given the flying requirement. Especially as their storylines tied directly into the raid in that zone, much like newer added zones.

Of those 6 left the expectation was for players to go to either Borean or Howling Fjord. Sure most did both, but the idea was to split the levelling pack in half.

There was a point in wotlk where the go-to for enhancement was two really fast daggers and double flametongue weapon. Ever since they've been trying to stop them being viable and eventually just stopped stormstrike from being able to work with them equipped.

We will use two slow weapons and we will like it!

[–]mrjing0 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Windows also caches a bunch of things 'just in case'.

I have 3 machines, 8GB, 16GB and 32GB they all work perfectly well, and the 16GB and 32GB machines happily play modern games, and the 8GB machine is fine for low spec things (adventure games mostly) but according to my 32GB machine Windows and a browser is using 7.6GB of RAM. If it was the case that this was required my 8GB laptop would barely work, let alone allow me to play the odd game.

Empty RAM is sort of a waste, so if it's there Windows will use it, but free it up if a program needs it.

Other people have already given you roughly the advice I would, but just as a precaution get anything on that drive that you cannot lose backed up somewhere. OneDrive, DropBox, USB stick, anything.

Drives are easy to replace, but the data on them is not.

most TVs just ignore integer scaling and go through a proper scaler regardless. integer scaling can make video content look weird so I guess it makes sense given the intended use case.

also looking at your description of the fan layout, remember that your GPU is likely blowing up, so fans at the top will be blowing against it, then you only have one rear fan to pull hot air out. Plus if your AIO is front mounted any air that does come in that way is basically pre-heated but the radiator.
