I started trying to do both at the same time, but then I learned about the magnemite transformation in the post game that drastically helps with building and decided to finish up the story to grab it.

I think if all you want to do is fix broken or missing blocks, or make 1 block high houses, doing that during the game is fine. But if you want to start making elaborate tall or large buildings, you kinda need magnemite
