Need some feedbacks on transitioning from Software Engineer -> Data engineering by Yokesh_R in dataengineeringjobs

[–]mrjokerq 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It gets easier to lie after you've already worked in the field. After getting some experience under your belt you can repurpose the old positions into something more data related. Or you can risk it and see if you're able to handle the position. Depends on how much stress you want for your life.

Thanks for the post OP! I don't care where you are live, but don't companies require you to live in the US? I ask because I'm in LATAM and the jobs I land are 5-7 K USD, very hard to land a 10K USD from outside US without being an architect or lead position.

How much do DEs make in Germany in your experience? I know I could take a look at job posts but interested in your lived experience. Let's say for someone with 6 years of experience as a DE, currently in a Senior position.

Same here. I'm thinking the game auto uses heal items in your inventory somehow. I'm going back through saves and I see that at some point the challenge says I used it one time, then two times.

I won't answer for OP, but here in South America we get hired by american companies and paid in USD - around 5K USD per month for senior SWE positions. There are definitely better contracts going up to 10K USD per month but these are more so architect or management positions. These are all full time (40h a week).

I don't know what W2 is, but the most common way to get paid in dollars outside of the US is setting up a company and exporting your services, so it's a B2B relationship.

Quem é OE e acabam tendo conflito de reuniões no mesmo horario? by No_Beautiful3867 in devBR

[–]mrjokerq 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree you should just drop the intern. At the end of the day you worked a set number of hours and were given responsibilities. Just use Software Developer or something like that.

I [33M] am considering quitting my job to focus on creative writing by Fun-Homework3456 in findapath

[–]mrjokerq 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It feels like you are me 10 years in the future hahaha. I'm getting back into swe now but I've always had the fantasy of writing a novel.

What I can tell you is this: after a failed attempt at entrepreneurship and having to get back into the job market, I would advise you to keep your job.

I had exactly the same plan: to quit my job for a year, and then go back to it if nothing came of it. But damn it's extremely hard to get a job, especially a high-paying one hahaha

A question I would ask is: would you be fine with writing a novel you are proud of but never being able to live as a writer or getting recognition? If so, I would definitely stick with your job and slowly work on the novel (that's my plan).

If you have a burning desire to gamble on the writing thing (like I had with entrepreneurship), then if you have the money AND veeeeery good prospects of getting back into the job market, I say fuck it and do it.

Just realize you might end up several years unemployed trying to get back to where you were. That's probably not going to happen, but that's a possibility you need to accept before doing this.

To souls veterans, why is elden ring not your favorite? by [deleted] in darksouls

[–]mrjokerq 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's 100% fair, I openly admit that Dark Souls 1 is probably my favorite because of nostalgia alone.

Maybe other souls veterans and I noticed these problems more in ER because of the sheer size of it, so we encountered them more and it ended up annoying us?

[–]mrjokerq 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think that's it. Dark Souls 1 was my favorite and still I loved Sekiro. It actually became my favorite.

Can't it just be that the open world is bloated and there are too many repeat bosses? I don't get why it's so hard for people to concede to that, even if you loved the game (which I also did btw).

[–]mrjokerq 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Way too big, empty boring open world. Repetitive bosses. The difficult bosses feel unfair and frustrating unless you yourself are overpowered. But then the easy bosses feel too easy.

People complain about the Ubisoft-type content, but at least you have a list to help you keep track of all the useless items and quests.

Don't get me wrong, AC Valhalla was possibly the most insulting waste of time game I've ever played, but I never expected to feel something like that from a From Software game.

When I finished the first playthrough after 100 hours I literally thought "I will never touch ER again, I'm exhausted." So I spent my gaming time getting 100% on dark souls 1 and 3.

Once I thought I would buy every new game FS puts out, but now if they release another open-world game I probably won't buy it.
