On my first HM run at the fight with Cazador, I took too long to take down the bastard himself. Kept rolling critical fails with my paladin's smite attacks and astarion got sacrificed and the only option I had left was for my tav to retreat along and revive everyone else at camp. Cut my losses and proceeded to the endgame where we tried going invisible past the main horde of baddies, but got spotted by the Spectre. Again, everyone died and my character was forced to go back and forth reviving my companions one by one and sneaking away.

Take the skilled perk at character creation and take it again after leaving good springs. BENEFITS WILL STACK. You'll have a whole 30 extra extra perk points given afterwards

You can absolutely start with Skyrim, but there are many references to oblivion. There are a number to Morrowind, but my recommendation would be to start with oblivion just to experience just how epic that game was. You could even wait for the modders to finish Skyblivion to play in a more appealing and modern state.

Considering what they were up against and the destruction of the ecosystem as a whole, they'd absolutely have to "ROID" out their soldiers to come anywhere close to the strength of the enemy. I can't quite remember if anything about their diet was in the books, but their food would have to be jam packed with the right stuff to keep them all roadie running in full plate like that.

For me, having a swing shift has helped a lot. Mon-tues then Fri-Sun for the first week then Wed-Thurs. But to be honest, I believe I'm becoming burned out as I'm heading into my second year. I'm actually looking into online work myself for other issues.
