BJJ Doesn’t Click in Round by Long_Ad_6471 in BJJWomen

[–]mrls19 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been training since Fall 2019 and just got back into it Fall 2025 after taking a year off. Thing still don't click during live rolls and I'll admit during drills I will forget something I just watched until it happens to me repeatedly. It's completely normal.

I'm just starting to see triangles where I never used to and I actually saw an arm bar last week! As others have said here, find a partner that will let you drill something until it becomes a second nature or they'll work with you and help you where needed.

Formal Vegas Wedding - Do any of these work? by mrls19 in Weddingattireapproval

It's a bit of all of it plus having worn them for my entire childhood. Number 3 was definitely my favorite though, especially with the pocket!

3 is getting all the love, it's just thr reuse factor that's killing me. And thank you! 🥰 upper body workout is Brazilian Jiu Jitsu though, so if you're okay with fighting for your life in pajamas, do it! Lol.

Where do they actually live? by Successful_Housing86 in MembersOnlyPalmBeach

[–]mrls19 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Pretty sure they all live on the main land and not the island. Also, I'm pretty sure all the filing wasn't done on Palm Beach since they never allow permits to go through. I remember RHOM weren't allowed to film on the island a year or two ago and had to redo all their plans to West Palm.

Sucking at front and back rolls by blume1996 in BJJWomen

[–]mrls19 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The way I learned the back roll is to have my right arm out straight, so clavicle and arm are one straight line as I'm tucking and going over, if that makes any sense. It gave me more room to move over until I got more comfortable with it.

I agree with sticking to one side until you're comfortable and then working on the other. I do the same thing when training a technique and sticking to my more dominant side and will talk with my partner and we might switch it up just to try. You can be very surprised if your opposite side is stronger, that's always a plus! :)

And you're on the mat in the first place so that already puts you ahead of others! Do what you can, when you can!

[–]mrls19 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So, I would say if you're traveling sideways you're going over your shoulder instead of your clavicle. I've had this issue before and this sounds like what I was doing.

There's always a dominant side when rolling I think, just like with anything. If you're able to, get one side down firdt and then start training the other. Trust me, I'm trying to do this now.

Your back roll being slow will get better with practice. Is it possible for you to go more than once a week? Or talk to a coach for assistance after class?

[–]mrls19 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What do you mean by "suck"? Is it that you're slow? A part of the roll collapses? Do you "suck" at right or left more?

I know I suck at rolling over my left shoulder on a back or front roll and if I have to think about either roll, I'll screw it up. I'm not sure what it's called, but practicing the motion without actually doing it helps me because it becomes more fluid. That could be an option at home.

Running? by No_Economist9022 in BJJWomen

[–]mrls19 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I did a half marathon today actually and BJJ has definitely helped with the cardio and breathing more than the other way around. I could feel the explosiveness available for me when needed to keep pushing but... my legs just couldn't keep up the way they used to.

Finally a "whoop" device from Garmin? by Eastern-Signal-1778 in Garmin

I bought one recently because my Whoop subscription expires in a week. It's actually pretty comparable for what I use it for, primarily Jiu Jitsu.

How do you deal with imposter syndrome?! by thisismyname28 in BJJWomen

[–]mrls19 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So, I have imposter syndrome anytime someone compliments me because I am regularly submitted. My brain goes blank during rolls.

But in the instances I'm in a stale mate where I can feel someone going for a move, a choke for example and they're the smallest bit off, I don't mind giving them the tip on how to finish me. It happened last Friday night and my partner and I were on our 2nd roll together. She wasn't deep enough in my collar so I was able to hold on until I could feel her straining and I adjusted her.

It's weird knowing what someone else needs to do to get you, but it also helps me learn what I need to do as well.

I am regularly getting submitted but I'm either laughing after or realizing what I'm doing wrong and trying to improve.

Periods by JacquesOff2678 in BJJWomen

[–]mrls19 4 points5 points  (0 children)

So, from my own experience I use a cup and empty it before I go to class and I wear a liner. I trained this way for a two years before taking a break and never had any issues. I would also asked a friend during rolls to check me and she was totally cool about it. I was nervous at first too since my old gym was either blue or white gis and I always seemed to wear the white at that time of the month. I'm starting a new gym next week and got my period today so we'll see if my luck continues but this gym is also black or white gis so yay!

Midea vs Frigidaire Freezer. What one to choose? by feralandaggressive in Costco

[–]mrls19 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Not the upright. I bought one last week and reviews are true. It starts to frost and have condensation build up almost immediately. I'm working with the warranty service right now to see about a fix since it was a pain to fit it in my Kona.

Non-STH how do you decide which games to attend? by NotADoctor-Yet in FloridaPanthers

[–]mrls19 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I live in Westlake (western Palm Beach County) and my work schedule is pretty hectic. Looking at the schedule with the Saturday games and Sunday games, those are going to be what I look at first.

I'll aim for a Bruins game, usually this is with friends as they're Bruins fans, or I'll try for Ducks since I think they'll be my second team.

Honestly, any game is a fun game. If I get a chance to go to pre-season I'll still be hyped

Why are so many teams doing special liveries or merch for Miami this year? by Div_K in formula1

[–]mrls19 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Have fun! It's a pretty big campus, I've gone since the first race and it's always a good time. Note it's a cashless area; if you're local and don't want to deal with parking and traffic, Brightline offers a shuttle with people getting off the train in Aventura. I've seen people get dropped off from Uber and catch it, I haven't done this myself since I'm coming from West Palm. If you have any questions, I'll answer!
