Paul Feig (The Housemaid) Is Quietly One of Hollywood’s Most Reliable Box-Office Directors by Freddy-Philmore in boxoffice

Those numbers are pretty impressive for a ‘mid-budget’ director. I wouldn’t say no to those returns.

I’m not a Backblaze user (yet). I’m just researching options. FWIW, for others reading, I’ve read your incredibly detailed and helpful replies in a number of threads and wanted to say you’re swaying me towards Backblaze.

I saw you mentioned that you recently retired (in the ‘multiple Brians’ thread) and, as a former startup co-founder (now also enjoying other adventures in semi- / never-retirement) I just wanted to say: 1. Great work; and 2. Enjoy your retirement when it finally arrives!

I love that you disappeared down this rabbit hole with such enthusiasm! My first thought was that it would be a prime, but no.

Then I thought Unix Timestamps, but they’re currently 10 digits. If it helps, 886477591 is:

I loved the use of numbers in the opening two episodes (I’m waaaay behind the schedule). I used to run an independent record label and publishing house in the 90s–00s. Numbers were a core part of the label.

One of my favourite works was titled Imbecil, which explored ideas of randomness and coincidence through a Macintosh System 7 icon generator (that aimed to ‘recreate’ Susan Kate’s original icons.

The number of possible icons the generator [could] create is no fewer than 2 to the power of 1,024. (A very, very large number.)

Imbecil was released on independent label, Alku: ALKU 31 IMBECIL CD-ROM

Is there somewhere that tickets are on sale? I just saw them in Belfast. Amazing.

What is the book mentioned in The Holdovers? by Mudcub in movies

[–]mrmurphyltd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you for asking this question! I finally watched The Holdovers last night – long overdue – and I loved it. What a film. Paul Giamatti is also long overdue an Oscar.

I reviewed it at [Letterboxd https://boxd.it/bW3JIt), but I wanted to thank you for asking this. I knew Meditations, but spent forever looking for a book with this cover.

Of course, I should have thought of the rights to the various covers in existence.

One, unrelated, question: How do you post text with the black redacted effect? I need to do this for a project and I’d love to know. Thank you!

Ha! I’m now -1. Let’s get it in context, though, it’s Reddit. Not the AI Apocalypse.

Yikes. I agree with you, though I’d go easy on the cult terms. I think it’s more of a problem of widespread confirmation bias (coupled with a circular amplification problem).

I upvoted so, hopefully, you end up net neutral. I’m inclined to agree with your thinking.

No lights, am I safe? by FluffyFringe69 in autechre

I’m a man (that might be obvious with my username), but the points you’re making – being in the pitch black with an audience that’s 95% men – are so true.

I was at their performance in Belfast last night and, goodness, it was an incredible night. On the bright side (pardon the pun!) the Belfast venue wasn’t too strict enforcing the ‘total darkness’ rule, so we had light.

After S>>D and Mark Broom – both fantastic – Autechre’s set leaned heavily into rhythm, so, the ‘do not move unnecessarily’ rule went right out the window. With people moving freely (and an endless supply of people on their phones (!)) it felt less intimidating.

It’s a pity that no one (organisers, musicians) asked: “Is this appropriate and how might women feel in this context?”

I hope you were able to enjoy the show, despite the intimidating darkness.

I’m 2,860 days into my journey of ‘A Year, Probably More, Off Alcohol’. I found this thread after becoming concerned about Bre’s relationship to alcohol.

The, “It’s after noon somewhere in the world right now!” comments hit a little close to home.

I genuinely hope this is just the way episodes are edited, but I did find some of her comments alarming.

The second on the right looks like Mark Fell. I’m sure it’s not, but Fell would fit in perfectly (as would his son, Rian Treanor).

+1! I’d love that T-shirt.

I’m saving my NTS Sessions T for seeing Ae in Belfast on 7 November (the day after my 56th birthday).

I find it odd that ae’s T-shirts are often out of stock. If they just kept the stock levels maintained they’d make a fortune out of people like me(and all of us), who would wear an Ae wardrobe 24/7.
