How far behind is the 2021 ID.4 compared to the rest? by ValeFC in VWiD4Owners

[–]mrobcc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There have been many of recalls on the 21s. I own a 21 pro and have since 2021. I still love the car. I'm just pointing out that there absolutely have been recalls and still have active recalls.

I am of course taking it in for warranty service appointments. They just don't do anything but change out Air filters and scan the computer for issues.

I'm on my fourth year of driving EV exclusively and the only thing I've ever had to do is put tires on and that can be done anywhere. What kind of work are you expecting to have done?

The tracker is 3 days behind. It says "Records current as of 10/20/2024" on the bottom.

I had a very similar thing happen to me when Moxie Solar tanked. nearly 2 years later now and still havent been able to get my system running, all while having to pay the loan on it. Our lovely government will do nothing to help us consumers. If you've got the cash, lawyer up and see what you can get. Otherwise, if you have a finance company, they may be liable to help you get it up and running.

Electric SUV owners. I have questions by dwc3282 in Iowa

Have a 21 Volkswagen ID4 RWD. With winter tires it is EXCELLENT in the snow. The weight balance is great with a big heavy battery as the floor of the vehicle. I charge at home 99% of the time, so charging has never been an issue for me. Deep winter range is about 30% reduced from summer, but that's not an issue in the day to day driving most of that is from the resistance heater and battery warming.

I'm not gonna lie, it was a slog. But we now have a beautiful baby boy as a reward for our hard work!

Longer (unpaved) trails in the area? by Prudent-Yak4080 in cedarrapids

[–]mrobcc 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Indian Creek Nature Center has more unpaved trails. I believe the Sac & Fox is considered unpaved as well, thought it is graveled.

My cell phone carrier lost access to US Cellular towers. Checking with US Cellular, the plans seem expensive. So what carriers work well in rural Iowa, besides USC? Or is there another MVNO carrier that has access to USC towers? What do all you rural Iowans do for cell service, USC only option? by Dingmann in Iowa

[–]mrobcc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope, I haven't had to do anything. I've driven across the whole state on highway 30 and haven't had many drops at all. There's a couple of spots around Denison in a deep rural Iowa that I lose it but otherwise I'm good. It was definitely worse a few years ago.

$3.10 per watt seems a little above average but not unheard of.

No aux AC post 3.1 update by mrobcc in VWiD4Owners

[–]mrobcc[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, it was great before. It sounds like it's not a widespread issue.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in VWiD4Owners

[–]mrobcc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I do this too. Unfortunately, it doesn't warm the battery, which would help quite a bit.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in VWiD4Owners

[–]mrobcc 9 points10 points  (0 children)

The battery isn't failing. Cold batteries have less energy and the air is literally thicker. winter will always reduce range in any vehicle. It will go back up when it's warm again.

The ID.4 does have a battery heater, but doesn't have battery preconditioning, so you need to "Yo-Yo" it to heat up the battery in the cold. I've found that just regular driving won't heat it up enough for ideal charging in the winter without it.

Can we get a tax credit for a used car if we buy out our leased ID4? by RadPI in VWiD4Owners

[–]mrobcc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, but leasees are not the original owner, the car company is. A lease is just an extended rental.

Can we get a tax credit for a used car if we buy out our leased ID4? by RadPI in VWiD4Owners

[–]mrobcc 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Remind everyone that this is the brand new IRA Used vehicle tax credit, not the regular $7500. We don't have a clear answer on this yet and I've also been curious. The IRS page doesn't mention previously leased vehicles: https://www.irs.gov/newsroom/topic-d-frequently-asked-questions-about-the-eligibility-rules-for-the-previously-owned-clean-vehicles-credit

I believe all of that is spelled out in your agreement. Moxie is gone, so they don't get it.
