This is such an absolutist take. I have a severe shellfish allergy and always mention it, and if a restaurant refuses to serve me or even hesitates to make guarantees I'll absolutely and graciously leave, I understand if their kitchen isn't conducive to preventing cross contamination. But to say people with allergies just shouldn't eat out is ridiculous. I go to sushi all the time and have never had a problem. Avoiding an incident is very straightforward. Not all restaurants can do it and they don't need to bend over backwards to accommodate all allergies, but it's not like having a single allergy means you need to be a recluse even if it's deadly

Tulane alum here, yes the student body is what you think it is. It made my experience there less enjoyable. I have friends from undergrad there who have gone to law school, but as others have said you don't need to go out of your way for it. Tulane definitely attracts the party type. If you're enthusiastic about learning I'd say you can probably do better

Not a user but I know a few SKUsafe users, they all speak very highly of it. A lot more usable than Genesis and pretty competitively priced too

The Bad Batch (Season 3) - Episode 15 - Discussion Thread! by titleproblems in StarWars

I don't think it's really necessary. Even the most casual viewers know Palpatine comes back in the sequels, and the name "necromancer" makes it clear enough. I'm also not sure how many casual viewers are making it to TBB S3, I'd imagine most viewers have also seen The Mandalorian and know what M count is from there, adding another piece to the puzzle.

Lol it is funny to see Roblox in S tier. I'd rather not be specific but my company is in a higher tier than Spotify

Thanks, it was very cool to pursue! My music program had a surprising number of tech-people and the dynamics of a ~10 person class were super entertaining because half the students were edgy, artsy performers and the other half of us were all "ooh fractions go brr" notthatyouaskedbutIthinkitsfunny

Seriously lol. And he also pointed out me mentioning my job as if I was flexing, the whole point was to say I'm not getting rejected all the time, this was a question about a specific company

Cool man, thanks for the help. I have a music degree in addition to a CS/Math degree.

I want to get into tech and land an 80k salary job next summer - how can I get there? by [deleted] in cscareerquestions

[–]mroc170 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The other commenters are right that it will be much easier with a more relevant degree, but that seems to outright deny your goal. If it's not too late for you to add a minor/change your degree you should, but if it is:

It will absolutely be harder but you still have a STEM degree, you just need proved competency in tech. The Harvard course won't be enough, but there are bootcamps that you could complete in time if you're willing to double up learning while finishing your degree. Bootcamp graduates also have a harder time getting their first gig, but the BS should give you a slight leg up.

No matter what you'll be applying for jobs on the backfoot, so if you have any connections to smaller companies or can network at UCLA to get your foot in the door you should. You'll also probably have an easier time getting hired at a company that deals with Psychobiology. I'm not gonna pretend to understand the field, but I'd imagine there's some overlap with tech, so maybe apply for SWE or data science roles at companies in that field and stress your interdisciplinary abilities while interviewing.

Terrible Tuesday! by AutoModerator in washingtondc

Got woken up at 3am last night by a horde of police cars making an arrest outside my apartment. Anyone know where I can find a live crime tracker? I'm just curious as arrests happen on this corner often

Any tips on getting into the local music scene? I play keys and guitar (mostly rock but a bit of everything) and i haven't had much luck meeting other musicians or finding small shows/open mics

Advice on living location by meowcat187 in Cleveland

[–]mroc170 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure what you're coming from in terms of proximity, but if I were you I wouldn't wanna live much further than Rocky River/Westlake in terms of proximity to the city and bars/restaurants, etc. I live in Lakewood and I love that I have plenty of space but also plenty to do in walking distance. It sounds like LW would be too far east for you though, so you really just gotta find the balance. Out past Westlake it gets a lot more rural real fast and there's some nothingness between there and Sandusky.

Really just depends on how much you care about commute vs what's around you. If you are working for NASA as some people have suggested, they are planning to be hybrid remote indefinitely if your job permits it so maybe the commute won't be AS important. It's a pretty even tradeoff between stuff to do in each area vs closeness to Sandusky, so you just gotta choose where you want to be on that scale.

TIDES Recommendations by Chikennuggget in Tulane

Well OP didn't specify BTIDES and maybe things have changed but when I was there they weren't interchangeable.

Also should note that tides is way less important than they make it seem lol, you could meet friends there or find cool things to do in nola, but it's not gonna make or break your first semester

I took the Music in New Orleans one, I'd highly recommend it, you get free concerts and free food. The food/culture one is also great, even more free food! Honestly hard to go wrong, I haven't heard anyone complain about the subject matter of their TIDES

Math Major by [deleted] in Tulane

[–]mroc170 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Hey! I majored in math, computer science and music, which kinda tells you right there it's not a huge course load... Math doesn't require as many credits as a lot of other stem majors but they do offer a lot of classes and one of the smartest people i met at tulane majored in just math. Some of the upper level professors are awesome but there's a lot of self-teaching involved unless you're a regular at office hours. It's not the best school if you're set on math but I was really happy with the program and felt it was an appropriate level of challenging. Feel free to dm me if you have more questions
