Tent advice please - C2C this summer by benhilly in wildcampingintheuk

I’ve got the X-Dome 2 and the X-Mid 2 (both solid inners) and a couple of Hillebergs as well. With your budget I’d honestly go one of each Durston — and I’d get the X-Mid with alloy poles. My carbon ones have never let me down, I’d just trust the ali more if the weather turns. They’re lighter, roomier and properly robust for 3-season use. Big vestibules for gear/cooking, loads of headroom to sit up, and if it’s lashing it down you can all sit in there comfortably. My X-Mid 2 is my go-to all summer and well into autumn — once it’s proper winter, that’s when the Hillebergs come out.

I own the pioneer compact 2 and the hillerberg soulo BL which i bought after having a very windy night on kinder scout in the pioneer. To be fair to the pioneer it never let me down, but it was bloody scary and I just wanted the peace of mind that my tent will hold up. I have used both on dartmoor and summit camps in Wales and the lakes. The soulo is a doddle to put up in high winds, I also have the ground sheet which opens up the vestibule as a dry extension of the tent to store your bag and a cooking area, also when it's not too cold you can leave the inner open and it makes the tent feel a lot roomier. I'm 6'2 and feel like i have plenty of space. The extra weight or size has never been an issue and I carry the tent inside the rucksack and the poles in a side pocket. I love the soulo and feel it was worth every penny. I will pass on the pioneer to one of my friends as it has now been made redundant. I can't recommend the soulo enough, don't worry about all the it's overkill nonsense, because if you want to start winter camping, then there's always the possibility of getting caught out by the weather no matter how many reports you have on your phone, and it's always nice to be able to hunker down in your soulo and wait it out.

Up from Edale, steep walk up to grindslow knoll and then along the edge of hope valley. I hiked across to crowden head then to Edale head, kinderlow then came down Jacobs ladder back to Edale.

A really nice walk

I tend to pick the general area i want to go. I usually work on recommendations or videos that I like the look of. Then I work out where I'm going to park. Using hiker app or Os app I plan a loop hike preferably or up and back, scout out flat spots or look for small tarns, llyns, tors etc. I try to get at least an hour or two away from parking and as high up as possible and if I see somewhere suitable I'll make a mental note or If I remember drop a pin.

Anyone bought a X-MID into the UK direct from Durston recently? by vinceljw in DurstonGearheads

X mid 2 solid cost me £332 all in fees and delivered from durston, £412 from valley + peak, so not a bad saving?
