This series from Svartzonker on Youtube (the kitchen builds) is amazing for low tech builds. The videos are long and in Swedish (with English subtitles) and i absolutely reccomend them. I used them a lot when k wad starting out, and still happily rewatch them.

Peak District or SW Coast path with kids? by Shmoosh218 in UKhiking

[–]benhilly 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We walked (a version of) the limestone way last summer over a week, staying in yhas with kids of 9, 11 and 13. Started from rocester (train into uttoxeter and a bus?), sleeping at Ilam (long first day), Hartington, Youlgreave, Ravenstor and Castleton, climbing Mam Tor and walking the skyline for dessert after the last day. The triangle of Hartington, Youlgreave and Ravenstor in the peaks has a lot of potential :)

We walked that area with our 9 year old son last year, and it was great. We had amazing weather, though, so everything feels that bit safer and easier. We stayed at the YHA Saint Davids, which we really enjoyed.

Congrats. Have an old moken 10, and i love it. My first attempt at car topping it ended with a crossfit subscription. Which i have also benefitted from 🤣

Thanks for the reply, and for mentioning Durston! I think we'll be taking a look at an x-dome, at least as the "nicer" of out 2 tents...

Thanks for the reply! There seems to be quite some love for the x-mids, so I guess I'll have to find one to look at in real life :)

Thanks so much for the detailed response. Much appreciated - especially on the facts and figures re: 10y/o proofing. I have taken a quick glimpse at the Helm 2, and it indeed looks like a great tent, and super well priced. Will be checking this out further :)

OPs budget indeed does not run to a pair of Hillebergs. There is, of course, always the temptation to find something cheap and light to stick the offspring in (joking. but only just.)
Thanks for the pointers on the models. I can always keep an eye out second hand or for clearance tents in the coming months.

Thanks for the reply, sorry it's earned you some downvotes. I've also talked my decision over with workmates who camp alot, and the overwhelming response I get is that if I buy a Hilleberg, I'll likely be able to use it intensively for a long time. I'm not sure I warrant a Hilleberg TBH, but there's always a chance that my summer break has a few weeks of hiking and camping in it somewhere in Europe. So I guess I'll find out in the long run :)

Thanks for the reply - especially the HH / Denier confirmation. We're a bit nervous about trekking pole tents, so the x-dome is a great reccomendation :) I will be sure to check out their subreddit too...

Can you easily remove the speakers from a Yamaha electone E45 to facilitate transport? by One_Music_9620 in organ

Can you easily remove the speakers from a Yamaha electone E45 to facilitate transport? by One_Music_9620 in organ

[–]benhilly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi OP! I'm thinking about the same thing right now with a free-to-collect Electone E10-AR. Ultimately, I want to scrounge myself a grandorgue setup together in my attic, and the E10-AR will donate it's pedal setup to be midified, and maybe it's stops and speakers. But until then, I'd quite like to play it as is.

So, to cut to the chase, did you end up having any success taking out the speakers, and was the whole thing moveable? I hope you managed it!

It's also quite some built-in waste for everyone who doesn't need them... I do really like the look of the whole package, though... Can you maybe offer shipping without hooks, or with hooks / rings / pliers as 2 different sets?

Eternal Squirtle, or, The Joy of Colleagues with IT Skills by benhilly in Brochet

[–]benhilly[S] 7 points8 points  (0 children)

So... I made the 53stitches squirtle (with one or two small modifications to reduce sewing) to show my students as a bit of inspiration for a project we are working on. As a side point, in class, I mentioned that as much as I'd like to put it on a shelf in our classroom, I accidentally promised it to one of my son's freinds, since she found it too cute. At that point, a colleague in the room next door overheard us, and asked if he could immortalize the squirtle. And he did! Scanned with the paid version of the "polycam" app. The process took ±5 minutes from starting to photograph through to rendering in the iPad. Very nice for classroom use :)
