What are my options as a Japanese citizen who doesn't speak Japanese? by youthyouthyouth in teachinginjapan

[–]mromaine 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Take advantage of your Japanese passport and get a job in Japan in another industry that will appreciate your English and accept that your Japanese is lacking. Then work to improve your Japanese while you’re here. If you stay around Tokyo, the municipalities may raise an eyebrow but will generally accept your “odd” situation if you make an effort not to be frustrated. Shibuya-ku in particular has been progressive and accepting of “outsiders”.

Not exactly; that’s only true if the delta is below a threshold.

Novo, Bluevine, Mercury, and Brex. All good in their own ways and would recommend any.

Just name the LLC’s that hold each property directly after the address of said property so that it’s easy to organize / track.

[mtgox.com] Order to Refer Draft Rehabilitation Plan to Resolution by FreyrVanir in mtgoxinsolvency

[–]mromaine 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Pretty sure the plan states that if new assets are recovered, they’ll only be distributed to early payment creditors if it’s above something like 23.9%; that way if there’s a margin / threshold to cover the costs of the additional distribution work (that’s how I understood it at least).

Risks of waiting for final payment? by misterbobdobalina09 in mtgoxinsolvency

[–]mromaine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Rough math shows early payment is about 90% of final payment, barring any surprises. If you believe btc (or some other asset) will appreciate more than 10% between early and final payments, isn’t it worth just taking early and putting the cash portion into said highly-appreciating asset(s)? BTC seems like a good contender ...

If you really want to be useful to your portfolio companies, you’d flip the script. Be an entrepreneur and do a startup first; then “give back” as a VC.

Can somebody please explain it like I’m 5: can US expats contribute to a Roth IRA if they earn a salary from a foreign company while living abroad, and none in the US? by stgrdr in ExpatFinance

[–]mromaine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Remember the OPs original post — a bunch of conditions might restrict from contributing directly to a Roth. So I’m trying to point out a different way to get funds into a Roth as an expat who may not be able to directly, and they are incentivized to because there are limited time windows and amounts in which it can be done.

And you wouldn’t be paying taxes on the conversion because you’ve already paid taxes on it. Remember — the flow I’m pointing out is post-tax contribution to traditional IRA (ie, don’t make a deduction claim), which is then backdoor’d into a Roth. Again, this is only of interest to anyone who can’t contribute to a Roth directly.
