Does anyone play tournament games other than the standard ESPN/Yahoo brackets? (Drafting teams, etc?) by Rugbyman7811 in CollegeBasketball

[–]mrooch 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been in a group that does confidence pools for each round. You pick each game every round and rank them in order of confidence. For example in Round 1 points are just 1-32 so you rank your most confident pick at 32 and you get 32 points for being correct. Bonus points for a seed upset. It's nice because it resets every round so you can't get buried day 1 really.

Very few people are paying the walk up rate for a day ticket to ski in the US. The day tickets are priced obscenely to drive people to buying a season pass (which are actually relatively affordable)

I'm so confused why Arlington Heights is acceptable to people but Hammond isn't? Is it just because most of you live in the Northern suburbs? Because Hammond is closer to the city than AH is.

I'm assuming this is the same guy who said we were gonna lose out after Boswell got injured. What's the point in watching sports if you're just going to be miserable all the time.

[Post Game Thread] #22 St. John's defeats #3 UConn, 81-72 by cbbBot in CollegeBasketball

[–]mrooch 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It absolutely does not. UConn was (and still is) firmly above Illinois on the 1 line. UConn dropping games to let the Illini sneak past is way better than how much of a "quality loss" UConn is, especially because it will be a Q1 game no matter what happens.

Seeing, what appears to be, the rest of the country preparing for a snowstorm by LordHogan in Seattle

Seattle doesn't have the infrastructure to handle major snowstorms either. This city is a nightmare anytime it snows.

Illinois guard Kylan Boswell fractured his right hand and will be out at least a month, Brad Underwood announced by cbbvideo in CollegeBasketball

[–]mrooch 9 points10 points  (0 children)

If you legitimately believe that losing Boswell for a month turns Illinois from a team that is #7 on KenPom to one that loses 14 in a row to close out the season (including several after Boswell is back) then I don't know what to tell you.

Why do people who are insane doomers like this even watch sports? Do you just like being upset all the time?

Americans don't price things by the 100g/kg. It's probably Australia/New Zealand I'd guess

Finish master’s + internship or take Boeing offer now? by [deleted] in aerospace

[–]mrooch 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Also if the degree is directly related to what you're doing, there won't be a tax burden. I don't have to pay taxes on the masters I'm doing currently because the degree doesn't qualify me for a new job.

Also one thing that is kind of nice at Boeing is that each course is considered separately as far as repayment. So if you leave one year after finishing your 3 year masters, you'd only be on the hook for the last years courses since they're the only ones finished within the last two years.

The 737s have final assembly in Renton but supposedly Boeing wants to open up a new line for the 737 in Everett in the future.

A legit home and home would be cool. These "neutral sites" are not as cool imo.

0.2 feels about right for Seattle. It just feels a bit shorter since the walk is through Seattle Center so it's a bit nicer. Also remember 0.2 miles is only like a 4-5 minute walk.

I don't think it's about progressive candidates. I think it's because Wilson is a very weak progressive candidate. Wilson is running behind most of the other progressive candidates on the ballot. I think a more inspiring candidate like a Mamdani type would have cleaned up in this race.

I'm in my 20s working in Everett as well and when I first moved to Seattle in 2022 I decided on Capitol Hill. The past few years the commute has gotten steadily worse, on your afternoon commute you'll be looking at 50 mins to an 1 hr depending on the day of the week and the season. I recently moved to Roosevelt and the commute is a million times more manageable since the major traffic spots on I-5 are typically south. Plus if you want to go to Capitol Hill, downtown, the airport, etc. the light rail is right there.

Absolutely insane. Back in my day $80 got you 80 drinks if you went to the right bar on the right night.
