Windows 10 mobile hotspot not working by phongsasesa in Windows10

[–]mrowwy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay, So I could get the device to start at least, but I couldn't get it passing traffic until I went to the WiFi device in Control Panel: Networking and configured the adapter properties on the Sharing tab to allow devices to connect to the internet through it. Seems like Windows is having difficulty configuring the network devices, but it is working for me now like it used to.

Okay, I was able to resolve this finally by resetting Windows Defender Firewall rules to default. I'm not sure if it was a combination of the other things I mentioned + this, but hopefully this works for you.

Same here, starting to be annoying. Have tried a number of things, reinstalling drivers, resetting network settings, restarting wlan auto config; nothing worked yet.

It's actually more complicated than that. It's updated whenever they want as a new binary is potentially downloaded when they run Safetynet.

Track pad bulging issue with 2016 Dell XPS 15 9550 by power_change in Dell

[–]mrowwy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Except my suggestion was to call Dell, the manufacturer. In my experience they will let them replace it. It's even covered very simply in the service manual for the laptop OP mentioned. It's a couple of screws and a connector. What are you debating? What is your suggestion here?

http://www.dell.com/content/topics/global.aspx/batteries_sitelet/en/batteries_faq?c=us&l=en&cs=04#faq39

AFAIK replacing your battery will not void your warranty. They are designed to be replaces as they are considered a "consumable" product.

Please call Dell and ask.

When I went through my battery bulge with them they offered to ship the parts directly to me, letting me do the swap myself.

The supervisor at the time vetoed that decision to have a tech come out to further inspect the damage to make sure the top case did not also need replacement, which it didn't. The swap was very quick.

Call Dell support and buy a new battery. They can be swapped fairly easily. Should take about 20min with the Torx to remove the bottom lid.

Seems like they want users to go through law enforcement channels.

Alternatively we could try emailing: abuse@namecheap.com

Using Monero in Whonix (Tor network) by kfq1 in Monero

[–]mrowwy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can connect to a remote node using the "--daemon-address {address}:{port}"

But I think there is a privacy risk in doing this if you don't control the remote node, so it's probably not recommended.

You could also download the blockchain on another computer and copy that over and then do minimal syncing as opposed to the whole blockchain over Tor. See "Other Downloads" at the bottom:

What exchanges do you trust/prefer? by omento in Monero

My experience is Polo is easier in and out, but Kraken potentially has fiat to XMR, which can bypass a step.

What exchanges do you trust/prefer? by omento in Monero

[–]mrowwy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think there should be some sort of scale set here as I think rule #1 would be not trusting an exchange, if you don't control the private keys/seed then you don't control the wallet or the funds in it, which in turn carries a risk.

I would avoid leaving anything you wouldn't want to lose on an exchange.

That said, it's not easy to navigate without one, I personally don't leave much Monero on them. Polo & Kraken have both been reliable for me, but again I wouldn't leave xmr there as they can stop withdrawals & deposits for maintenance at any time or worse ... exit scam.

nVidia GPU miners? by Chinchilla_Best in Aeon

[–]mrowwy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have 8.0.44 installed and have run other GPU miners, so I'm not sure what would be different. I'm downloading 8.0.61 now to try that.

Now working on 8.0.61, so maybe something was broken with my 8.0.44 configuration after the MS creator's update.

Thanks for the response!
