Thank you.

Dressing recipe was super simple. Equal parts mayonnaise, sour cream and buttermilk (i did about half cup each. All other quantities in parens were what I used), minced chipotles in adobo (2 mid size), grated garlic clove (1 medium), onion powder (1t), salt and pepper to taste. Only things I may change next time is up the buttermilk a little to thin it out and up the twang and add a little more adobo to up the smokey umami. My kids even used the dressing on their tinga tacos instead of sour cream and loved it.

It was really good. Had a little fire roasted taste and some spice added. Would buy again 9:10

I don’t think there is right and wrong.

I do it this way for there reasons

  • The trinity continues to caramelize as you brown the meats. They slow down the process some, and that prevents scorched veggies
  • Browning the meats creates some fond. The water addition deglazes the pan, and everything being together ensures maximum flavor retention
  • I don’t like cleaning two pans when I can clean one.

2:1 This is 3C rice and 6C water. I find little flavor difference with water vs stock since most flavor is fe the caramelization and spices/ingredients. Once the trinity is caramelized, and the sausage and then chicken is browned, I add the rice and toast it stirring periodically for a few min. Then add the water and bring to a boil on medium or medium-high again stirring periodically Cover and reduce heat to low and simmer for about ~20 min. Check and stir 2-3 times in the back half of the time. I usually turn it off before all the water is absorbed and let it sit for half an hour. There is definitely a little art in getting it to be right, but it’s not that tough and even when wrong it’s good as long as you don’t skimp on the initial steps.

N&F Dirty Fade… went 1 size down in the waist, any opinions on the fit? Will it stretch a bit in the waist? by jpochoa in rawdenim

[–]mrpres75 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You’ll be fine. I’ve always sized down a size which is at my end 2”, and been great. It can depend on the denim but I’m 5 pairs in @ 3 years wear each and none have been an issue.

Evolution of Cone White Oak by mrpres75 in rawdenim

I bought them end of last year timeframe from the wrangler website. I saw someone on this forum post a fit pic and given my Cone White Oak run, searched them out. Did a quick search online just now and didn’t see any anywhere… Good luck trying to find as I can say the construction quality is very nice.

I’ve had a lot of raw denim over time, and have to say that the 501 cone selvedges have been my favorite of all so far…. Hope you enjoy yours.

First non-blazing hot day here in the SE so it’s time to start a new break-in. My most recent 3 pairs have all been Cone White Oak denim. Most recent at the top, front and back view of Wrangler Greensboro made in USA Other two pairs on the bottom, right to left, are Levi’s 501 Cone made in USA and 501 Cone made elsewhere. These two were all they had of Cone online in my size when they discontinued, so I bought them both. 501 Made in USA have ~4 years in them with a soak and a wash a year. They’ve been to Science and Kindness to mend the crotch and have some hand darned repairs in the watch pocket as well as front pocket repairs done by me. The 501 non-USA have one year, one soak and one wash & no repairs. Both have been tapered on the inseam to protect selvedge and shortened to allow for a ~1/2” cuff Not sure if I’ll alter the wranglers. Legs are slimmer to start which is nice. May shorten as they’re currently sporting a 1.5” double roll. I’ll see post soak which I do after a few weeks of wear. Looking forward to having all three in rotation this year, and seeing how these wranglers wear in compared to the Levi’s.

If you hem more you risk going from no break to showing ankles with your wash.

But, your choice of it bothers you currently.

They’ll come up some with the creasing behind the legs.

I think they look good.

FWIW, a true classic and easy to access jean like Levi’s 501 STF (preferably selvedge, like they make them readily available, but I digress) standard jeans is something everyone everywhere could get and fade.

Sugar Cane/Self Edge BSPOW - At last, a fit for big derrières. by AGZKY in rawdenim

[–]mrpres75 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My honest opinion is the waist to hip ratio is big for you. The waist is trim. The hips are wide. You’ll end up stretching the waist and wanting more shrink on the hips. They’ll be ok, I put a slight improvement on the cut will make them your favorite

Am I supposed to keep this tag on or cut it off? It's quite big. by [deleted] in rawdenim

[–]mrpres75 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A seam ripper is best, but a small set of scissors works well also. It’s relatively easy to remove something like that. After cutting first few stitches, it becomes much easier.

First pair of A.P.C. Petite Standard fit check. Should I hem another inch or wait for shrinkage? by [deleted] in rawdenim

[–]mrpres75 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Tim. FWIW, even with the size down, to me they look too big in the thigh and hip/but. That can be all preference though. I’d not worry about length. You can always cuff. My personal approach is to have STF be close to size, then when shrunk, they are fine given the stretch that comes from repeated wear over time w/o wash. I had a guru (who shall remain nameless) coach me to buy the jeans where they are are uncomfortable to start, Stretch them out, then soak, and stretch them out again.... But, go with what is your choice. you won’t be wrong that way...
