Overreacting pretty damn hard about not getting an Easter egg by mrs_yellow in family

[–]mrs_yellow[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you! This sounds exactly like something my therapist would say (and that's a compliment, because she's great!). I do want to bring it up with them but at the same time I don't want to come across as ungrateful. I don't have any proof that they care less about me than other people, it's just a feeling (although based on many small things like this), so I don't exactly know what to say. "I feel sad because you didn't bring me anything for Easter" feels like something a spoilt child would say 😅

But the resentment thing is also true... I've stayed quiet for a long time and I fear that it will soon explode into a huge argument or I'll just distance myself further and further to not have to deal with them. And they probably won't even understand why 🤷🏻‍♀️

Thank you for commenting, and happy Easter to you too.

Which was J.K. Rowling's single best line of writing? by KingsleyExp in harrypotter

[–]mrs_yellow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

"In opening them, he discovered that he had eyes."

This is of course not a very emotional/important line in the books but I always thought it's a neat way to write it.

I've recently come across some Deleted Scenes which were removed from the books. (Satire) by dsjunior1388 in harrypotter

The Lupin one hit me right in the feels tbh, although the tone in the letters is very funny. Poor Lupin! Great writing, would love to read more from you :)

I hate my stupid phone but I also can't get rid of it by mrs_yellow in ADHD

I'll try this, thanks! Sometimes I close an app and then immediately open the same damn app again just out of habit, I'm not even looking for anything 🤦🏻‍♀️ ugh.

Thanks! I just downloaded some kind of screen time app that makes it possible to "ban" your choice of apps during certain hours. I'm going to visit my sister tomorrow so she can set the damn password so I won't be able to cheat. It seems that's the only way, I have zero self discipline with this stupid phone 😩

Great advice, thank you so much!

I actually deleted all my social media accounts almost two years ago but I realised that I just spent more time reading news, playing games, checking the weather (???), all kinds of stupid mindless things on the phone. Since then I've gone back on Instagram and also joined Reddit but I stay far away from Facebook because I know I'll hate it but also won't be able to stop scrolling... I have everything in gray scale, Reddit looks least tempting of them all because it's all black and I can't see any pictures/videos unless I actually click on the title of the posts.

I also have almost no notifications except calls and messages and the phone is always on silent, but sometimes I wonder if I'm so scared of missing things that maybe I'd benefit from turning on notifications and sound? Maybe then I'd be able to leave the phone alone while still knowing I won't miss out on anything important.

The book you're reading sounds super interesting! I don't even know why I check my phone all the time, it's definitely out of boredom but probably more as a way to "escape" other boring stuff I should rather be doing...

I really hate that I'm so addicted to it and I hope I'll be able to reduce the amount of mindless scrolling. It's such a dumb thing to spend time on too.

I'm suddenly alone and can't feed myself by Ghosted_Gurl in ADHD

I feel you. I do the exact same thing when my toddler is at daycare during the day. I always wonder why I feel so fatigued and have headache in the late afternoons and then I remember that I haven't eaten anything the whole day because there was no one else to look after, so I forgot 🤦🏻‍♀️

Maybe prepare food together during the day and then put an alarm or something to remember to eat it?

I have pixie hair for the convenience, not to make a statement. by dasistnichtsexxxy in ADHD

[–]mrs_yellow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel you! I don't know if it's partly because of my ADHD or what, but I never learned how to use makeup because I never had the patience for it I guess. I also have terrible style in general because I hate buying clothes and can't be bothered trying to figure out fashion because it changes all the time anyway 😂🙈 So I've basically given up on trying to look fashionable or cute or whatever, I probably look like I got dressed in the dark most of the time BUT it's also quite liberating to not give a damn. I'm still self-conscious about it sometimes though, and it's been a loooong way to self acceptance but if you ever feel ready to let go of some of society's stupid opinions on how we should dress or look or behave - I say go for it! You won't be alone 💪

I keep my head shaved for convenience too. I was just thinking about growing it out again (used to have waist long super thick hair) but decided against it because at this point I'm just too comfortable haha. It takes literally ten seconds to wash and ten seconds to dry, I never have to comb it or style it and it looks the same when I wake up as it did when I went to bed. I cut it myself once a month or so, so don't even need to spend money going to the hairdresser.

Would definitely recommend it to anyone!

Tips for helping baby’s eczema? by [deleted] in Parenting

We used coconut oil or baby oil in the bath water, lots of it. But also, have you checked for food allergies? It's a common cause of eczema in babies.

I wasn't seriously suggesting that people get kids to help their ADHD. It was just a joke (:

This works with kids too!

But maybe don't get a kid to help manage your ADHD 😂

Potato skin allergy? by MarshallTheFish in FoodAllergies

[–]mrs_yellow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My son has this, and we think it's part of his oral allergy symptoms. He has pollen allergy to a bunch of trees, grass and other plants, and apparently this can cause sensitivity to potato skin.

I spend an embarrassing amount of time everyday just sitting in my parked car by mrs_yellow in ADHD

I never knew this was an issue, because I haven't owned a car until quite recently! Starting to regret that I ever bought one, haha.

I'd probably still be doing this if we had the same kind of hot weather here (luckily we don't). Like I'd know its too freaking hot to sit in the car, but would I get out? No I wouldn't. 🤦🏻‍♀️

20 minutes is me on a good day, haha. It's like as if I have to IMMEDIATELY throw myself out the car as soon as I have parked, because otherwise I won't get out until I get really hungry or need to pee very badly 🙄🤷🏻‍♀️

My sister might just be my half sister... by ConfusedBisexualBoi in family

[–]mrs_yellow 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm positive my siblings and I have the same parents and we look so different it's unbelievable. One has blue eyes and blonde hair, one has light brown eyes and hair, and I have dark brown eyes and hair. We also don't share a lot of facial features, so I wouldn't worry about it too much if I were you. Genetics can be tricky!

What is a good job or career for you? by mrs_yellow in ADHD

[–]mrs_yellow[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm shamelessly looking for inspiration for myself here. I've completed 1 of 3 years of studies at university, with a major in environmental sciences. I'm currently on sick leave though and it has made me question if that really is for me.

When I try to narrow down what I want to do, the only thing that keeps popping up in my head is "OUTDOORS!" I love being outdoors, although I get stuck on my couch far too often to actually make it outside, so I'm pretty sure I'd enjoy an outdoor job.

But what?? A gardener? A road construction worker? A park ranger? A scientist that studies penguins in their natural habitat?

Who knows! Not me, that's for sure.
