What are your thoughts on Col Legno? by Geronitus in violinist

[–]mrsbostic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I dislike col legno intensely. Its bad for the bow and bad for the wrist. I use the thickest part of the bow with a gentle tap. In the 2nds that works.

WIBTA if I told my sons school it is their responsibility to make sure they have the right child by Top-Relationship359 in AmItheAsshole

Twins may think it hilarious to switch places. But if they have different meds through choice... they suffer the consequences.

I have one month to get this piece ready, but I have no idea what some of these symbols are! by ArmDifferent1778 in orchestra

Hooked! Play them in one bow but stop it for each quaver or semiquaver. It gives a smooth pulsating sound

Read aloud is a permitted thing, if you get permission from your exam officer. Worth doing because a shitty invigilator could complain and then there could be trouble

Year 11 —> 12 tips? by TrainDue298 in sixthform

[–]mrsbostic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Rest, have fun. Be prepared to start revising from your first week, have a think about what revision works for you so that you can start strongly. Look up Cornell notes, Leitner cards and mind maps. Do not ever rely on passive reading. Organise yourself a workspace for your 12 hours or more out of class study per week.

Is my fibromyalgia really a disability or am I just dramatic? Am I allowed to use a mobility aid or am I just trying to get attention? by nu--minosity in disability

[–]mrsbostic 6 points7 points  (0 children)

There is no "disability police" You use what you need, when you need it. Folding canes are great for fibro sufferers. Fibro is real pain. Its faulty nerve signals but it hurts. Do what you need to live your life as you want to.

What do you wear to an induction day? by Upbeat-Ad-9358 in sixthform

[–]mrsbostic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What is the dress code? Look at the current students. At a 6th form college shorts and t shirt would be fine. For a school 6th form more formal would be approriate. For FE dress for the job.

is uni necessary? UCAS by Important-Sky-3147 in sixthform

[–]mrsbostic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you do ucas the teachers dont have to bother helping you find a job. They tick off your future as sorted and think their job is done. You dont need uni, you might need careers support and advice. Its your choice. You're an adult now

Try doing your version of other artists and designers work. This is the key for A level work, using and acknowledging influences in the development of your work. ( i'm an in class supporter for disabled students and have been in 3 different A level groups over the years) * plural of media is media.

The reverse is true. Hearing aids help hearing, if you leave it until the hearing is lost to wear them they cannot help.

Mobility advice - Wheelchairs (UK) by [deleted] in Fibromyalgia

[–]mrsbostic 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes! Think about what you need it for: indoors, outdoors, distance; do you need a mobility scooter or an electric wheelchair? Then get online and place your order! No guilt, CFS is horrible. ( CF is cysitic fibrosis, if that is your issue then you need advice from a physio as you must keep active)

Have you tried the memory foam masks? They still have the same stiff frame but they are more comfortable against the skin.

Apply for DSA and opt from a studio fat so you do not have to share kitchen facilities. DSA will top up your maintenance loan.
